From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.2.17-21mdk i686; en-US; rv:0.9.1+)
Gecko/20010611
BuildID: 2001061106

I've only managed to get this to happen twice -- once last week on some nightly,
and once today. In each case the autocomplete menu has opened up when I start
typing, displaying a very long URL (bugzilla query strings in both cases). The
url is so long that the autocomplete menu extends past both edges of the browser
window -- all the way to the edges of the desktop. Then, when the autocomplete
menu "closes" (I select a url, though both times it's been a new url I typed in,
rather than an autocomplete choice), the menu *stays open* -- it continues to be
painted to the screen. If I swtich virtual desktops (I'm running KDE), the
autocomplete menu is still there! It will continue to lurk on all desktops
(often behind other windows) until I quit mozilla.

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1.autocomplete menu opens to show a very long previously visited url
2.... I'm not really sure.
3.Continue typing in some other url and hit return.

Actual Results: Autocomplete menu continues to be painted as open, including on
other virtual desktops.

Expected Results: Autocomplete menu should go away when it's no longer needed.

I have found this *very* hard to reproduce -- my attempts to do so on demand
have been entirely unsuccessful. Fortunately, I have a screenshot from the
second time it happened.

It seems somewhat likely this isn't actually a URL Bar bug.
The bug also happens on Win32 trunk build 2001060709.

I have got the repro steps:

1. Start Mozilla browser.
2. The caret should appear on the URL bar.
3. Press down-arrow key. A blank autocomplete dropdown menu should appear.
Refer to the screenshot attached below.
4. Press "Alt" key. The "file menu" would appear raised up.
5. Press "Alt" key again. The "file menu" would become flat.
6. At this point, the autocomplete dropdown menu would stay there, always on
top. This can be verified by un-maximizing (restoring) the browser window (if
it's maximized at the very first step).
Nice. I can confirm that those steps will reproduce on linux, though i need to
hit ALT-f to pull up the file menu (ALT alone won't select the menu when the url
bar has focus...).

As said by reporter, this bug seems hard to reproduce at first.

In fact, I come across this bug for the very first time today (before I saw this
in reported in Bugzilla). And by some luck I got that reproduced. (What a
fluke!!) It's by error in pressing keyboards will you get to this bug... Now
this bug is *always* reproducible!

I have noticed this too (Bug 88674). You can reproduce this (in Win98) by
dragging with the right mouse button from the URL drop down list into the
browser window.

This does also 'work' for the File/Open Location drop down list (drag into the
URL box).

This could possibly belong to the XP Toolkit/Widgets: Menu component.
