Many pages making heavy use of Java and JavaScript do not work with Mozilla.
Especially home banking pages often cause trouble.

Example 1: http://www.citibank.de and click on "Zu Ihrem KONTO" (the only text
written in red color). A blank page opens instead of the customer login page in
a new window.

Example 2: http://www.bmwusa.com/welcome.cfm?code=Home and click on "Model
Guide" and nothing happens

Example 3: http://www.bmw.de and click on CarConfigurator. Source code appears.

All of the above work in Netscape 4.7x

1. Page uses unsupported document.layers and document.all ->Evangelism
2. Could not find what you referred to, but I assume the same thing as 1.

andreasb@vmlabs.de reported via email that this was originally seen on:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.4.0-4GB i686; en-US; rv:0.9.1) Gecko/20010607

is a dup of evangelism bug 85009.

Please file one evangelism bug per site. I am treating this bug as the
citibank.de site only. If the other pages still have problems please (someone)
open new evangelism bugs on them.

I don't see the layer problems on this page anymore. I do see

Error: msg.toLowerCase is not a function
Source File: http://www.citibank.de/
Line: 35

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x804b000a [nsIDOMLocation.hostname]" nsresult: "0x804b000a (<unknown>)"
location: "JS frame :: http://www.citibank.de/ :: checkFrames :: line 44"  data: no]

The first error looks like a coding error on their part. The second looks like
another problem I have been having 0.9.1 but not been able to track down.

The page in question looks like it works for me, marking fixed. If you disagree
please reopen but do not reopen for sites other than citibank.de. If you have
other sites that have problems please file a new evangelism bug on each site.

hmmm, I still don't see the javascript errors in the console but Mozilla does
not display the moving image at the right of the page while NS6.1 does, so looks
like sniffing problems too.

Ian, what OS are you using?

I called them today and reported that neither Mozilla nor NS 6.2 worked with
their site. They told me that Mozilla was exotic, and that their might still be
undiscovered security bugs in NS 6.x. So they couldn't let their customers use
NS 6.x, because of these possible bugs. I asked if they knew of any security
bugs, but they declined.

They also said that maybe in a year they will support Netscape 6.x

I asked for an e-mail address in order to contact tech-support, but they can
currently only be contacted by phone.

When you spoof the UA (general.useragent.override), you get a blank page.
Looking at the source of the page, I noticed that it uses the NS4/IE4
proprietary DOM, has no DOCTYPE, and other standards-compliance problems (FONT,
CENTER).

I've know been waiting over a year for them to fix their site. I noticed in the
newsgroups that several US-banks have no problem with mozilla. If someone can
tell me a german bank that supports it, I might move my account.

I sent an email detailing the problem to Christian Kroos, Citibank's spokesman
in Germany, since I couldn't find any other e-mail adress to contact them. Today
I got a reply that the processing of my request required some more time -- by
snail-mail.

They seem to be a bit backwards at citibank. There's no email adress on
http://www.citibank.de, going to citibank.com and looking up the contact
information for germany gives you a nicely formatted 404 page, and if you go to
citigroup.com and look under Countries/Germany, you get an adress, but they are
unable to reply by email.
what does the message say?

We don't like your Browser, it has to less bugs. Plese change the bank..?
The error message is:

Aachen, April 23rd 2002

Your complaint from April 16th,2002

Dear Mr Fellinger,

We refer to your complaint listed above and inform you of the following facts:

As the customers of Citibank Privatkunden AG access our pages with many
different computer systems, we introduced a standard that allows smooth access
for the majority of our customers. This is currently only possible with Internt
Explorer 6.0, or with Netscap Navigator up to 4.78.

But in relation to the security of your account we will closely follow the
development of technology and its programming and apply changes where applicable.

We hope, that we could make the reasons for our decision not to support Mozilla
accessible to you, and hope for your unterstanding

Yours sincerely,

Citibank Privatkunden AG

Maybe it has something to to with the Web server they are running?
www.citibank.co.uk is running on Netscape Enterprise 3.6/SP 3, and supports
Mozilla, while www.citibank.de is running on Microsoft IIS 5.0, and doesn't
support Mozilla. Maybe something for MS-antritrust-case?
Working on this and taking. There is a bugscape bug on this with more detail.

Has somebody thought about contacting Richard D. Parsons, Member of Citibanks
Board of Directors, and Co-Chief Operating Officer, AOL Time Warner?

Citigroups Annual Report for 2001 says they have a strategic alliance with
Microsoft and AOL. What will they do when AOL replaces IE with Gecko?
This is being worked on, however I am not allowed to say what is happening :)

Marcus, the contact info at the end of each job description contains an email

politely asking to forward the mail to some IT person. It worked. (~2a ago)

Today I received a letter from Citibank Germany. The translation is as follows:

Aachen, Oct. 16th 2002

Your letter of inquiry to our head office

Dear Mr. Kaestle,

We made our operating department to review your inquiry about the Mozilla
browser and can notify you about the following:

Unfortunately, the use of Mozilla for Citibank Online is in fact not feasible.
The problem derives from the kind of our's Internet Banking & Brokerage
application programming. However, at next year's beginning we will make some
modifications in Citibank Online. Then, the use of Mozilla will be possible.

We hope we could accommodate your concern and hence ask for a little patience.

Regards,

They will update to the US codebase in Jan
Target Milestone: --- → Jan
*** Bug 172983 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Online banking still doesn't work at citibank.de with mozilla.
They now have the US-version online (click on the Stars&Stripes to the right of
"Citibank Online") However, this also brings up a blank page. The page appears
in a new window, titled CitiDirect, and the source code for the page contains
document.layers and document.all. The URL for the page is

https://cipehb10.cdg.citibank.de/Pers/English_(United_States)/Redirect.htm?LANG=1&LANGNAME=English_(United_States)&DEVICEMODE=HTMLGPH&SRCT=10

If you click on a the German flag, you get an empty page with the URL

https://cipehb5.cdg.citibank.de/Pers/German_(Germany)/Redirect.htm?LANG=4&LANGNAME=German_(Germany)&DEVICEMODE=HTMLGPH&SRCT=10.

I've done a diff of the two pages, and except for the URL's used an the
translation to English, they are identical.
In the E-Mail i bekome is the url not complete!
here the right url:
https://cipehb4.cdg.citibank.de/HomeBankingSecure/Pers/StartSession.asp?LANG=4&LANGNAME=German_(Germany)&DEVICEMODE=HTMLGPH&SRCT=10&TS=1037752850851
the last 11 characters are not shown.
in the IE6 it shows the last characters and displays the page correct...

greez
Tried your URL, but that only shows a blank page as well.

Don't forget that IE6 still supports IE4's document.all construct, while NN4's
document.layers was dropped from Mozilla. And the page only supports these two.
look at the url in the adressbar from mozilla, he opens not all charakters the
last 17 are not shown there -> mozilla process not the full url!
i'm not a programmer, i'm only a user
I don't see the empty page. Can you still get it to happen?
On February 18th, the transition to the US codebase was not yet complete. It is
complete now - but it still does not work with Mozilla. :-( When using the link
provided with comment #33, there is an endless cascade of opening windows. The
same happens when clicking Citibank's Online Banking links, either with German
or English language. Using MSIE works.

Since I'm not a JavaScript Wizard, could somebody please have a look at what's
going on? Whether this is a Mozilla bug or additional Evangelism is needed?
I just tried the US-codebase today. After confirming one cookie-request and 3
requests to open an encrypted page, I arrived at the "Citibank Online Sign On",
and was able to login and use my account like I did with NN4.7.

There is a second problem, in that www.citibank.de will be loaded into a new
window every time you start Online-Banking, and this new window hides the Sign
On window.
Markus, although I granted JavaScript all of the clickable rights in the
Advanced Preferences, it still doesn't happen to work. I am always redirected
back to the homepage after clicking "Weiter zu Citibank Online" on the message page.
Ok, this one seems to be version and/or OS dependent.

Tried it on Linux with a Mozilla 1.1 Alpha -> worked as explained by Markus.

Tried it on Win98SE with a Mozilla 1.2 Beta -> did not work (endless cascading
windows containing www.citibank.de).
I tried it with Mozilla 1.3 Beta (Build ID: 2003021210), and it works. So this
seems to exist in 1.2 only
I upgraded my 1.2b to 1.3b, and indeed the Citi Online Banking is now working
for me. So it was really the version 1.2b which had the problem.

Unfortunately, there are severe stability problems - on Win98, Mozilla crashes
within minutes or even seconds after login. But this is not specific to this
site: Mozilla 1.3b is, at least on Win98, generally extremely unstable.

I guess Bug 85424 can be closed now.
When I want to enter the Citi Online Banking pages, Mozilla 1.3b (Buildt
2003021008) for Linux emits a small beep and goes back to the Citibank Homepage.
Does everybody here with granted acces use the Windows version?
I completly forgot to define an exception in the Privacy/Pop-Up blocking setting
in addition to the JavaScript prefs. Now, it

WFM
I am the original reporter of this bug for the Chilean case, bug 165164. I am
now using Phoenix 0.5 on Win2K, and this page still doesn't work; when I press
the blue button "acceso a sus cuentas Citibank Online", I get a blank page.
Viewing the source code, I can see they are still using document.layers and
document.all.

Naive question: wouldn't it be easier if Mozilla/Phoenix simply provided
(configurable) support for this (buggy, non-standard, stupid) extension?
citibank.de is now fixed, right?
citibank.de is fixed, right. Citibank moved to the US codebase and later did
some additional fixes on their JS code. It has been working now for me
consistently for some eight weeks.

I still cannot use the German Citibank page with Mozilla 1.4 (release) on Mac OS X.
Didn't work with 1.3 either. It does work with Mozilla 1.3 (release) on Windows 2000,
though.

When I click on the red "Citibank Online" button, the page just reloads (which is expected
behaviour), but the logon window does not pop up at all.

Could someone please reopen this bug? I don't have sufficient rights in bugzilla.
Are you sure that the Pop-up windows aren't blocked?
> Are you sure that the Pop-up windows aren't blocked?

Oops ... sorry, you're right.

The problem probably is that because the "www.citibank.de" page is refreshed
right after that, I never see the "popup blocked" symbol, and hence did not
think of this option.

Adding citibank.de to the allowed sites (previously, I only had www.citibank.de)
resolved the problem.

Off topic question: Do you / does anyone know an URL, or maybe a small
hown-grown javascript, that allows me to open the homebanking window without
having to load the www.citibank.de page? If I extract the link of the red
button, it nevertheless loads the page after showing the login dialog box.
Sometimes I am connected via a slow modem line and this s***cks ... Or maybe
this behaviour could be finetuned via the "allowed sites" list?
