the newTab is having weird results on some platforms e.g. tab created but marionette works in old tab
we should simplify this!

Bug 861810 is one of our top non-automation oranges at the moment - and it is my understanding that this will fix it. Do you have an ETA for working on this - or can you suggest someone else that can? (If soon, then we can avoid disabling more tests in bug 861810).

this *may* fix the issue but there is a worse underlying issue. I thought was looking into this but if I got my wires crossed sorry and will look at this ASAP

Yes, I'm still looking into this. It's slow going since I have to request try builds for every iteration - I can't reproduce it locally, and I can't build on the test slave on which I can reproduce it.
I'd rather fix the more fundamental problem.
