i have solved this by restarting the redis server behind chief, which we have another bug open for to investigate why this has continued to happen. initially i had thought it was a memory usage issue, but that doesn't appear to be the sole root cause.
you should be able to do your pushes now. i will continue to poke at this and keep the other related bug (899188) up to date.
