Sam, this is a tracking bug. There are a couple of tasks which have to be done. You can find them all as dependencies marked on this bug. Please check one of those if you can find something interesting for you.

Hi Sam, there will also be a Google summer of code project related to this work. But if you want to get involved earlier than that, you can talk to James Graham (jgraham on irc) or myself (ahal on irc) for some more details.
