When sharing an app details page via fb or twitter, it shares the marketplace home page, not the app details page.

This is expected. The <meta> tags include generic information. To make this possible, we'd need to build spaceheater.

A version of Fireplace that runs on the server to prepare a blob of HTML for the first load. I built a prototype a few months ago but it has been on the back burner.

Once (and if) SH lands, you won't need metadata (FB does a good job of extracting details from the page itself).

Inclined to say this shouldn't block anything since it's probably not going to happen any time soon. This is a quarterly goal-sized project, it's not something that'll take like a week and then we ship it in one release.

sorry - you are indeed correct.  It doesn't block badges.
