Currently on mozilla-aurora (29) and mozilla-central (30), interactions in Facebook's social toolbar (Friend Requests, Messages, Notifications) alongside opening the sidebar menu require two taps. On Firefox Beta (28) and Firefox (27), this is working as expected.

This needs investigation into seeing wether it's something we corrected that breaks Facebook and needs TE or if it's something we accidentally broke.
Summary: Facebook social toolbar and menu interactions require two taps to invoke focus → Facebook social toolbar and menu interactions require two taps to invoke visibility

In bug 977246, I also mentioned that the menu closes immediately after when it does open, making it impossible to use. Not sure if this aspect of the bug is device-specific -- I'm using an HTC One.

Not device specific. I've seen this behavior on a nexus 5.
Note that bug 960146 was uplifted to Beta as well, so if it's not happening there then it can't be just that bug.

I tested last weeks candidate. I'll check the latest candidate.
... and yes, it's affected with 28.0b6
This seems to happen frequently in interacting with the menu and social toolbar in Facebook in 28.0b6 thus making Facebook (in conjunction with bug 977173) painful to use on beta 28.0

I can confirm that backing out bug 960146 fixes this regression.

Updating the summary to be more useful. Bug 978154 has some good information, but I'll mark it as a dupe of this once since this has the tracking flags. Useful information and minimal test case here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=978154#c0.
Summary: Facebook social toolbar and menu interactions require two taps to invoke visibility → preventDefault() does not prevent the mouse events
I wonder if Bug 960146 is behind Bug 966919 as well.

Looking at the flags in that bug, I'd say no since status-firefox27 is affected. Bug 960146 only got uplifted as far as 28.
Fixed with backout of bug 960146.
