Summary: A Popup window can crash page when E10S is enabled → A Popup window can crash the actual page when E10S is enabled
Hi Achwaq, Bug 933462 seems to have been fixed. Does the crash still happen with the latest Nightly? Can you provide one website where you can reproduce this?
Depends on: 933462

Hi Achwaq, I'm not quite sure what this bug is about. It sounds like there are a couple of problems: * A crash after opening a popup window (as in, the browser stops working entirely) * You get a tab instead of a new window (that's bug 989501) * You get a popup/tab at all (but you clicked, so I wonder if you had a more aggressive popup blocker installed that might not be working because of e10s. Can you clarify which of these problems you're seeing, or if I'm misunderstanding entirely? Thanks.

Thanks. Hi Blake, - actually i have no popup blocker installed as an addon, i'm just using the built-in one in firefox - sometimes i get a popup (which is rare)and sometimes a new tab instead which really causes the parent tab to crash (the plugin-container)and if it happens a lot the main process (firefox.exe) will use high CPU====>freeze====> then crashes or i just i have to terminate it manually I just want to add that i have the dom.ipc.ProcessCount set to 6 on a Core2Duo laptop (P8600 @ 2.4GHZ + 4GB of RAM and HWA enabled on a nvidia 9700M GT with the latest drivers) let me know if you still need more infos, Regards.

Achwaq, Can you also go to about:crashes, then copy and paste any of the crash id numbers here, especially if you know they're crashes from this problem? Thanks!

Achwaq, I will add the crash signatures to this bug! But, I also tried to reproduce it, and couldn't. Can you try to see if you can reproduce the crash, with extensions off, i.e. in Firefox Safe mode? Thanks for the help in testing !

Yes Liz the issue is still reprodcuible even in safe mode and here is what i got: 117147c4-359c-4404-ad34-81e510e7c943 5/15/2014 10:12 PM bp-ef78256f-8531-4785-8dab-f42442140515 5/15/2014 10:14 PM bp-81ac3092-c0d1-4b10-b76f-8596f2140515 5/15/2014 10:13 PM 773e124e-9d42-426a-a4db-b1e2730070a2 5/15/2014 10:13 PM https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/ef78256f-8531-4785-8dab-f42442140515 to rproduce it try this: go to www.thepiratebay.se>search for any query that involves checking a thumbnail on 3rd party website (which will trigger the "popup"/new tab>result= the opened tab is blank and the parent tab (on which you clicked the thumbnail link) crashes I'm committed to give as much as i can! so don't hesitate to tell me if you still need more infos! I'm sure now that the problem is likely to happen if you rise the dom.ipc, processCount from the default 1 value!
Ah-ha! Indeed, we do not yet support dom.ipc.processCount > 1 on desktop yet. I'm converting this bug to track that. Do note that, for the moment, we have our hands full with the dom.ipc.processCount == 1 setting, so we're not likely to make too much progress in the near-term. We will tackle this in the future, though. Thanks a bunch for figuring this out and testing e10s.

Here's some crashes with a different signature, not sure if I should file a new bug or if these are already covered by one of the dependencies of this bug: bp-c0b42630-8f1d-4a4a-ae24-0fe462141223 bp-045ba6eb-16ef-46c7-9258-3f9e92141223

I tried using firefox with dom.ipc.processCount = 24 and it BSOD 4 times. The BSOD error was REFERENCE_BY_POINTER. One crash happened when I clicked to open a tab, 2 while not touching firefox and other while browsing. So I am not sure how it is repeatable but it will BSOD, maybe try moving tabs from window to window.
this is no longer true
