Given experience on Linux/Windows, this should net us a 15-30% faster turnaround time. Compile times shouldn't improve much, but hg operations, tarring, zipping, clobbering should be much faster.
We should probably use 512gb samsung evo drives, given space usage https://graphite.mozilla.org/render/?width=586&height=308&_salt=1396640537.329&target=avg(hosts.bld-lion-r5-*_build_releng_scl3_mozilla_com.df.root.df_complex.used)&target=avg(hosts.bld-lion-r5-*_build_releng_scl3_mozilla_com.df.root.df_complex.free)
Lets start with 1 system, then do try, the the rest.

Deploy Studio has been configured for testing the SSD on bld-lion-r5-087. We should be good to go when the SSD arrives.
* Cloned bld-lion-r5-puppetagain workflow to bld-lion-r5-puppetagain-SSD
* Created a new computer group (bld-lion-r5-puppetagain-SSD) and moved bld-lion-r5-087 into it.
* Removed Create Raid from workflow and changed target volume to first disk available.
* bld-lion-r5-puppetagain-SSD workflow set as default automatic workflow for the new computer group

Someone should verify that version of osx that run on these support TRIM. If not, whether there is another way to accomplish trim. No point in going further without trim.

You have to enable TRIM by hacking one of the system binaries:
http://www.storagereview.com/how_to_enable_trim_with_nonapple_ssd
I've done so for bld-lion-r5-087, and we could likely do this with puppet if we want to roll this out to all builders.

so you confirm you got trim to work with our ssd?

I only confirm that I've turned it on at the OS level. I did not do any benchmarking to verify that the SSD you specified is actually using it.
