Win95 2001 09 23 08 The icon of a helper app is shown in two places: 1) The Preferences->Navigator->Helper Applications dialog box. 2) The "Open with ... / Save to disk" dialog box. In both cases the icons are discolored. Attachment coming. This has been happening for a while. I haven't changed my screen settings in recent memory.

that's really odd. mscott, any idea what might be causing this? d'you see this?
I see this as well 2001091503 / Win 95 B / ATI Mach 64 (1MB 2D accelerator)
Reporter, Do you know when this first started happening (build ID)? nsIconDecoder images: mscott's expertise.

what's your resolution and what's your color depth? 16 bit, 32 bit, etc? sounds like a bug in my windows icon decoder for your color depth & resolution.
The problem occurs with 16 bit, 1024x768. The problem does not occur with these settings: 24 bit, 800x600 32 bit, 800x600
To add to that, it does happen with 16 bit, 800x600.
wfm Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011019 1024x768 @ 16-bit. Adobe PDF icon looks quite nice.
Reporter: Does this still occur for you with a more recent build? http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-win32-talkback.zip (as always, be sure to delete your old Mozilla directory before installing the new one)
Win 95, Build from 11/16 The problem is still happening, and in fact it's gotten worse. The icons are now stretched vertically in addition to being discolored. Attachment coming.
Reporter: Have you tried a fresh profile? You can manage/create profiles with "mozilla.exe -profilemanager".
I tried a fresh profile, no difference. Note: The colors in that last attachment are all off (I must have set the PNG compression too high). The vertical stretching is happening with all screen settings. The discoloration is still only happening at 16 bit, and it always happens at 16 bit.
Ryan: Try installing the very latest versions of your video card drivers. If that doesn't work, I'll -> NEW.
Uninstalled video drivers... same effects. Installed new video drivers..same effects. ATI RAGE LT PRO
Ok, -> NEW. Adding block: bug 104992.

this is still mscott's. please to be not reassigning me bugs that arn't mine. thanks.

The icon stretching is actually bug 111372 - please don't confuse this issue. As for the discolouration - works for me (Win 2k, nVidia GeForce3, cvs build from 23/11/2001). If it is a problem with ATI drivers, then this would be invalid. Unfortunately, there isn't enough detail on bug 104992 to say for sure.
Not sure about duping: that other bug 104992 is only about scrolling (and clicking) artefacts mostly in conjuction with transparent images. I just checked it and all duplicates of it. No one mentions or shows a different color like here. However, bug 177038 seems to be quite closely related since the color change is the same - it only occurs at different places (?) Can someone, who can reproduce this, check the Download Manager and Progress Dialogs if it also happens there?
*** Bug 177038 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Info from dup: Mach64 ATi video card, bug also occurs with 8 bit color depth and in download manager/progress window.
The same with ATI Rage II+ (with drivers from 1998) 800x600, 16 bit color, on Win95 (Moz 1.2.1). Seems to affect a whole range of old ATI cards...
