Allow the user to be able to select between Sender, Recipient, or both column displays in the message list pane. This would perhaps help on bug 92774 , bug 98866 , and bug 101162. I have sometimes mixed sent and received mail in the same "mailbox." I would like to see if I sent a message or not, and if I sent a I message I'd like to see who it was to and not that I was the sender as would be the case as it is. Both columns being selectable would definitely make this easy without having to detect if this was a Sent mail folder or a former sent mail folder, and would also allow for cases such as mixed sent and received messages.

Another way to solve this problem: bug 36489, create a "to/from" column that shows the 'to' field if you're the sender.

This would also fix bug 107073 and bug 114533. There's no point why both columns shouldn't be available from the drop-down list of columns of all mail folders. Of course, the default would be to display "Recipient" on Send folders and "Sender" on other folders.

I would like to see this feature done; but keep this in mind as a possibility: I manage my e-mail by month, so in the end sent and rx mails *ALWAYS* wind up in the same archived folder (how can anyone do otherwise, that would separate the threads!?. I requested a feature for our custom text-based mail reader at work quite a few years ago: basically, if the from: address was equal to *my* address, the display "to: recipient" in the "to/from" column. The "outbox" remained set to an outgoing mailbox and always showed "To: recipient" and vice versa for the inbox, but all other boxes keyed on the account owners e-mail to choose which address to display. This feature could be turned on/off by a user preference. I was *very* pleased by this behavior.

This ability has been requested by several of the users I support, as a means of project management. Keeping all the emails for a project in a single folder makes it extremely easy to track back through it's history, but only if both the sender and recipient fields are able to be displayed.

I think this can be made a dupe of bug 36492 : that one proposes optional to and From columns, but keeps the combined To/From column, so users can pick their own preferred header.

Not really. This RFE is to allow you to choose any combination of the columns for display, not just one or the other or an interpreted column. To me that's even easier and more versatile than bug 36492, and it offers any type of view on any folder special or otherwise: Sent, Trash, etc.
I, too, would like to have this function (please note I did not say feature <grin>) added. Russel

I agree with comment #6 - it is a dup. The ability to choose which of the available columns to display and which to keep hidden is always there. The only thing that's missing is having the "Sender" and "Recepient" columns available, which is exactly what the bug 36492 asks for. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 36492 ***
