User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0
Build ID: 20150519144715

Steps to reproduce:

Change View to Favorite: View -> Folders -> Favorite
Add Folder: New Folder...
New Folder Dialog, Name = Test
Exit Thunderbird
Start Thunderbird

Actual results:

"Test" folder gone from the Favorites view, however it is in the All view.

Expected results:

My expectation is the "Test" folder when created in the Favorite view should automatically get marked as a Favorite. I have a user who insists this used to work, but no longer does. I am not sure what version we used to run, but we went to 31.6.0.

Severity: normal → S3

It is still existing on my 115.1.1 (64-Bit) Supernova and Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon.

I cannot reproduce this with 117.0b6.

Danny, can you reproduce?

Sorry, I'm still running a late 102 Release.

OK, to make it maybe more clear for TB115:

  • It is possible to mark folders as favorite, they will be shown on the right site of the program window under the category "favorite" and they stay there after closing and reopening the program. Everything seems to be ok for that
  • It is also possible to group the folders an mark the group folder "Inboxes/Posteingang" as favorite. In this case the new favorite folder "Inbox" will not be seen after closing and reopening the TB115. You can see the category "favorite", but its empty. Right click on "Inboxes" in "Grouped" will show a tick on "favorite", but its not part of the categoriy.

For TB 102:

  • It is possible to mark folders as favorite, they will be shown on the right site of the program window under the category "favorite" and they stay there after closing and reopening the program. Everything seems to be ok for that.
  • It is also possible to group the folders an mark the group folder "Inboxes/Posteingang" as favorite. In this case the new favorite folder "Inbox" will not be seen in the category "Grouped" from the beginning.

So put it in a nut shell: This problem seems to exist only for grouped folders.

Sorry my fail:
... they will be shown on the LEFT site of the program...

I can reproduce this in the current beta, TB119.0b1

  • In the Folder Page, show the Favorite and Unified Folders sections
  • Mark one of the unified folders as favorite
  • The folder will appear in the Favorite Folders section ✔️
  • Restart Thunderbird
  • The folder does not appear in the Favorite Folders section ❌

Right clicking on the folder in the Unified Folders section, the Favorite Folder item is still ticked.

A couple of bugs that sound related:

  • bug 537342 - "Marking unified folder as favorite does not show it among favorite folders"
  • bug 1756234 - "search folder does not show up in Favorite Folders until you view All Folders"

I can confirm this behaviour with the current TB 115.

Additionally, I would like to add that a similar behaviour also occurs if I rename a favorite folder. The renamed version is not a favorite.

Thanks for all the information, the other bug references.

So put it in a nut shell: This problem seems to exist only for grouped folders.

This original bug report is about plain folders, not unified. And Version 115 and 119 are rebuilt to be different from prior releases, so most current issues are unrelated to past issues and we can close this bug report.

Personally, I'm not sure marking a unified folder as favorite makes sense. (bug 537342) Offering maybe should be disabled.
