Trunk build 2001-01-03-08: Linux RH 7.1
- File|Import, Mail displays a blank box
- File|Import, Settings displays a blank box
- File|Import, Address Books displays Communicator 4.x and text file (LDIF, tab,
csv, txt)
Adding jglick to Cc: list. Since Outlook, Outlook Express and Eudora are not
available on linux, then how should this dialog appear for the Import Mail and
Import Settings dialog? Possibly disable the Mail and Settings radio buttons at
the top level Import dialog?

So importing Mail or Accounts is not available at all from Linux (at least from
the applications we currently support). Only File|Import, Address Books
(displays Communicator 4.x and text file (LDIF, tab, csv, txt)) is available.
Maybe if the user selects Import and is using Linux, we can drop them into the
Wizard directly at the "Select an Address Book to import" screen (next screen
after selecting Import an AB).
If not, disabling all options but "Address Book" on the first screen would work.
This is an important feature. Evolution and OpenOffice have importers. It is
not difficult to implement; and IMHO should already be implemented. Isn't
Mozilla a couple of months away from its 1.0 release. For starters, one could
implement an mbox / address book / settings / bookmarks importers from Netscape
/ Mozilla, and later include include M$ Outlook's .pst file etc.

The root cause seems to be some combination of:
* If there are no valid import sources, then you get a silly empty dialogue as clearly described in 305547.
* The import manager when invoked from File / Import does not offer to import bookmarks.
I'm not sure what the appropriate long-term fix is because I'm not familiar with the intent behind the design of the import wizard.
FYI, I'm the maintainer of Ubuntu's firefox package, which is also affected by this bug. We have removed the Import option from the File menu because importing bookmarks can be done from the bookmark manager, and importing other settings doesn't make much sense in our context.
