User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0 Build ID: 20150525141253 Steps to reproduce: * Thunderbird Version: 38.0.1 * Operating system + version: Windows7 64bit * Account type (POP / IMAP): IMAP * Mailbox provider (for example, GMX): * Sync add-on for online address ?: none * Used antivirus software: * Firewall (OS-internal / External Software): Hello There, I have since the introduction of the TB 38.0.1 the problem that I can´t import a new address book. I've tried pretty much all import outfits, I get nothing imported. Actual results: Nothing - not even in the preview I can see something. Expected results: I have imported the contacts hundreds of times. So I have experience with the topic.

Can you attach a sample file (even with bogus censored data) so we can try it out?

Summary: Address book failure during the import sind version 38 → can't import address book since version 38, when ANSI encoding and non-ascii (with utf-8 encodings it works)
Whiteboard: [closeme 2015-08-01]
Export an adressbook in a TXT.File (tab-separated) and import the same TXT.file doesn't work with thunderbird 38.1.0 (Win 8.1). It works, when I stored an Excel-TXT-File in UTF-8, like it is noticed above (Speichern unter > Tools > Weboptionen > Codierung > Unicoe (UTF-8)) Aditional quotas helped, too. Normal Excel-txt-file export: Name<tab>Vorname<tab>Anzeigename Name1<tab>Vorname1<tab>A-Name1 Name2<tab>Vorname2<tab>A-Name2 Additinal quotas: the following manipulation in the TXT-file helped "Name"<tab>"Vorname"<tab>"Anzeigename" "Name1"<tab>"Vorname1"<tab>"A-Name1" "Name2"<tab>"Vorname2"<tab>"A-Name2" To manipulate the txt-file with a makro in Excel look this tip (link): http://www.pctipp.ch/tipps-tricks/kummerkasten/office/artikel/excel-2010-csv-export-mit-anfuehrungszeichen-59568/
