While Mozilla now allows web-site icons, and I very much like the feature; I would really like, however, to have more control over the icons. Specifically, I think the user should be able to select a 'custom' icon for anything in the bookmarks (In other words, let the user change/specify the web-site icon as a property of the bookmark entry) This also applies to folders/subfolders. The best description I can think of is to look at the way KDE's Konqueror allows any & all bookmark Icons to be customized, set, or changed. This way there is a visual element to bookmarks that have no icon defined by the website, as well as being able to add a pictoral identification to a sub-folder. Sorry in advance if this is a dup; but searching for 'bookmark' and 'icon' didn't seem to turn up anything.
Custom icons for folders is bug 114692.

i've wanted this for quite some time. keep in mind that IE bookmarks are actually windows shortcuts, so specifying an icon is trivial. since bookmarks are html, we could implement it in that manner ...even in-line, as per bug 121793. this depends on bug 143687, Bring back site icons (favicons) in personal toolbar because there are no icons in bookmarks currently. (adding dependency) adding self to cc list suggesting target milestone->future
Depends on: 143687
My proposal for fixing bug 143687 (bug 143687 comment 48) would fix this bug, too. There's already a patch. If you can live with editing your bookmarks.html manually (the patch doesn't have UI to change the icon) you can have your custom icons right now.
Same bug for Phoenix: bug 199877.

Firefox will use favicon.ico files in the bookmarks now. This isn't a perfect solution for this bug, but it is a step in the right direction.

If you can confirm that the report doesn't apply to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it to the appropriate RESOLVED state (WORKSFORME, INVALID, WONTFIX, or similar). If no action happens within the next few months, we move this bug report to an EXPIRED state. Query tag for this change: mass-UNCONFIRM-20090614

(In reply to comment #17) > *** This bug has been confirmed by popular vote. *** I have no idea why that just happened. I added a vote to a /different/ bug and did not change my vote on this one... I currently use Favicon Picker 3 to solve this bug, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/favicon-picker-3/
WONTFIX => Extension Fodder e.g. Favicon Picker 2 and Favicon Picker 3
Resolution: EXPIRED → WONTFIX
