I get slightly different behaviour in a Windows XP VM.
Firefox 41 and earlier without Flash: black rectangle where the video should be.
Firefox 41 and earlier with Flash: video plays without issue.
Firefox 42 and later without Flash: black rectangle where the video should be.
Firefox 42 and later with Flash: black rectangle where the video should be.
Chrome 47 plays the videos without any problems.
In neither case do I see the stalled loading screen as reported above.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Component: Graphics → Audio/Video
Ever confirmed: true
Summary: vid.me videos do not play → vid.me videos fail to fallback to Flash playback starting with Firefox 42
I tried to regress this unsuccessfully using mozregression. In release the issue doesn't start appearing until Firefox 42 but on Nightly it goes back as far as I can regress. This may be a tech evangelism issue but I'm not sure how to get evidence.

If 41 falls back and 42 doesn't, it might be a user agent sniffing failure. Anthony, can you please try faking the user agent in 42 or 43 and see if that fixes it?
Flags: needinfo?(anthony.s.hughes)
Firefox 41 - video plays with Flash
Firefox 42 - video does not play
Firefox 42 with Firefox 41 User Agent - video does not play

Something wihth canplaytype maybe. We'll need to investigate what the site is seeing that's different between 41 and 42. Will likely be fixed by mp4 support for xp in Firefox ~45 regardless.

Firefox will be able to play H.264 without Flash using the Adobe CDM in Firefox 45 (bug 1210231).

Bug 1210231 does not help for Win XP. Moreover, we postponed Adobe GMP on Windows XP because of a problem about the Facebook news stream.

We've removed MSE whitelist since Firefox 42 (bug 1185611). Does it have to do with this issue?
