*** observed with 2002-02-12 build ***
in today's build i am not able to type in the AB card field unless i hit TAB
first. But in that case the Display Name is not formed. You have to enter it as
well.

This problem appears similar to bug# 125060, probably related to a general bug.
"No cursor and no radio button" reported in bug 125060 do not prevent from
typing into the field of the Account manager, it just the lost focus (btw this
problem is not new in today's build, it was present in Mac OS X yesterday).
Contrary to the problem reported in 125060 the problem reported in this bug
report precludes you from typing unless you hit TAB. I don't think those two
bugs are similar though could be related.

Marking nsbeta1 because users shouldn't be required to press Tab, and a Display
Name should be generated.
Severity: normal → major

If the user does not press TAB, he will not be able to enter any text in the
fields. Clicking a field with mouse does not give it focus. I still believe this
might have something in common with bug 125060.

raising priority. I think we need to fix this for 0.9.9. Otherwise creating an
AB card is impossible and I don't think most people who use the mouse will
realize they have to hit tab first.
Priority: P2 → P1
Target Milestone: mozilla1.0 → mozilla0.9.9

This problem appears in the new page setup dialog implemented for bug 113727.

Brian (Ryner) & I checked on MacOS 9, X and Linux (RH 7.1). It works just fine
onthose paltforms. This is a Windows only bug. Modifying the summary to reflect
that.
Tried all common fixes like setTimeout(), setting focussed attribute to true
etc. Nothing worked. This is a core problem (misaligned events ?).
We need to start the debug process from the textbox constructor. Will also check
the code path in EventStateManager.
Thanks to Brian for sitting with me on couple of debugging sessions. Will ping
him with any interesting data points.
Current work arounds :
1. Click on some other window. Then click on new AddressBook card window. First
field gets the focus. User can enter the data. Mouse clicks and Tab events are
honored.
2. Hit tab. First field (i.e., First Name) doesn't get the blinking cursor. But
user can start typing and it will start filling. But mouse clicks are ignored
and the guessing game starts. I don't like this work around at all.
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Summary: Unable to type in any field of a new AB card → [Windows only] Unable to type in any field of a new AB card

This bug is introduced between 11th and 12th of Feb.
http://bonsai.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?treeid=default&module=all&branch=HEAD&branchtype=match&dir=&file=&filetype=match&who=&whotype=match&sortby=Date&hours=2&date=explicit&mindate=02%2F11%2F2002++08%3A00%3A00&maxdate=02%2F12%2F2002+08%3A00%3A00&cvsroot=%2Fcvsroot
Though there are some textbox focus related checkins (by Brian), they were
not-part-of the build then and also of gtk module. I have sent the above link to
Brian as he may be able to detect the regression of those checkins.
