- make Manage Bookmarks open the sidebar - eliminate the Create New Folder and Create New Separator items - make Import Bookmarks... a top level menu item in the Bookmarks menu

More UI polish issues: Bookmarks, Manage Bookmarks, Create New Separator does not work. Possible: take out Create New Folder and do all bookmark management via the sidebar. Manage Bookmarks can become a top level menu item, and Import Bookmarks can move to the top level menu below Manage Bookmarks.

having the only way to accomplish these tasks be buttons in the sidebar is probably bad for accessibility. though on the other hand, burying them in a hierarchical menu isn't great for that either ;) discuss.
Please don't take away the menu items (Create New Folder); many people rely on menu items plus it is an accessibility issue. Is there a bug for "New separator" not working? I am happy with the menu structure as it is until we get some usability feedback (please don't move the bookmarks I use down further to insert "import" or other items which I'm unlikely to use regularly). The current structure favors important items (as top-level) and less-used in the sub-menu. I think it'd be nice to allow users to (1) edit a bookmark and (2) delete a bookmark from the menu too but it's probably not worth doing right now. my 2 cents...
For what it's worth, MachV does not let you add folders & separators from the Bookmarks menu. I'm happy to keep the menu as is, though we should at least push "Import Bookmarks..." to the bottom of the list, with a blank line above it, since, as is pointed out above, it is the least frequently used of these items. So what I propose is: Bookmarks Add Page to Bookmarks... Manage Bookmarks Show Bookmarks in Sidebar <spacer> Create New Folder Create New Separator <spacer> Import Bookmarks... <spacer> [Bookmark List]
moved import bookmarks to the bottom of the submenu. removing from the polish blocker list until we get some more feedback on what we want to do here.

Is it not obsolete with bug 178963 ?
*** Bug 178963 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
See bug 178963 for discussion of import/export.

A 'cleaner' layout, one group at one place, will be simpler to understand. '' means a separator blank line menu item. 'Add Page to Bookmarks...' is renamed 'Add Bookmark...', see bug 188669. 'Bookmarks Toolbar' is renamed 'Bookmarks Bar', see bug 188667 'Bookmarks Toolbar' is renamed 'Bookmarks Bars', see bug 188577. 'Sidebar' is renamed 'Drawer', see bug 181148. Bookmarks > Add Bookmark... Bookmarks > '' Bookmarks > Bookmarks Bar(s) > 'hierarchical with all bars and their items' Bookmarks > '' Bookmarks > 'list of bookmarks' View > Show/Hide Toolbar View > Customize Toolbar... View > '' View > Show/Hide Bookmarks Bar View > Show/Hide Status Bar {see bug 159233} View > '' View > Show/Hide Drawer (View > Show Bookmarks in Drawer) {see bug 185933} (View > Show History in Drawer) File > Import Bookmarks... File > Export Bookmarks... The first block of the View menu is for Page contents/bars. The second block of the View menu is for Drawer contents.
I agree work needs to be done in this area. Specifically, browsers typically have a "Manage/Edit" Bookmarks command, which will open a bookmarks dialog window (Camino and OmniWeb are the only two exceptions I can think of). I actually prefer the dialog route, because when I "manage" I'm not going in to change one bookmark's name or another's location. I go in there to basically clean house. As it is now, that's not as easy as it should be with the existing drawer. I would like to use a dialog that let's me see everything in a folder tree format, complete with: clikable name and URL editing; deletion by highlighting an item and clicking my "Delete" key; the ability to add and move separators (this is another bug I think); drag and drop for anything in the dialog (folders, bookmarks, separators); and of course the ability to create new folders in the first place Overall, Bookmark management is one of Camino's biggest weaknesses in terms of flexibility and providing functionality people are used to with other browsers....
Some of these (we don't have a sidebar anymore) request should be added to Bug 212630?
indeed... marking this dependant on bug 212630.. once those are in anything not addressed by that patch can be loooked at here (or this bug marked a dupe of whatever specific issue is left... e.g. export)
Severity: normal → enhancement
Depends on: 212630

is there any point keeping this open?
closing, if there are issues that are still relevant, please open new bugs.
