User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:71.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/71.0

Steps to reproduce:

Steps 1

  1. Drag message recognized as bulk in bulk folder.
  2. Drop it to inbox folder.
  3. Go to inbox.
  4. Go to bulk.

Steps 2

  1. Right click/Move To/Email address/Inbox
  2. Steps 3, 4 of Steps 1.

Actual results:

Message not moved to inbox. Message found in bulk.

Applies also to 70.0b1 32 bit.

If message is moved via new message filter, then moving by d&d or right click menu works.

Expected results:

Message is moved to inbox.

Please note that we call the facility to classify unwanted e-mail "junk" (SPAM) not "bulk".

This reminds me of bug 1580060 or bug 1521115.

Can you clarify the steps, something got lost in translation here. You're saying that if the message was moved by a filter, then moving it back via drag&drop or via the context/right-click "Move To" menu works.

So in which cases doesn't it work? If TB moved the message to the Junk folder, not a filter, then it cannot me moved back via drag&drop or "Move To"?

Summary: Message moved from bulk to inbox not moved → Message moved from junk to inbox not moved

If message is automatically recognized as bulk (not spam/junk) not using custom user filters then is not movable/droppadble to inbox.

Sorry, I really don't understand this.

Who or what piece of software "automatically recognises" a message as "bulk" and moves it into a special folder? Your e-mail provider?
(My e-mail provider moves suspected SPAM into a folder called "spambucket".)

It is not a spam is mass-message folder. Similar to newsletters folder. There newsletters, expected advertisement, reminders etc. can/should go.

This folder is set up by mail provider – Volny.cz. I use IMAP.

OK, by "bulk" you don't mean spam/junk, which I think you also state in comment 2 and the header you attach seems to indicate it is not spam/junk. Your imap provider is delivering the "bulk" mail directly to the "bulk" folder and not to Inbox like normal mail.

Anyhow, this is sounding like bug 1580060 where the move back to inbox from trash (or any folder I think) didn't work for the user. Haven't been able to duplicate it yet but still working with reporter.

Reporter uzivatel919, could you record an imap log showing your attempt to move the message back to inbox? You can find the procedure for recording the IMAP:5 log here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging
Please attach the log using the "Attach file" link above. Thanks!

I prepared a logs.

I must provide additional information. There exists some filter on Thunderbird side moving some messages from Inbox to Bulk. If I change this filter to moved such messages from Bulk to Inbox (to opposite direction), messages are automatically moved back to Bulk (same as is d&d or right click option). But if I create new filter, set it exactly the same as the existing one from previous test, messages stay in inbox folder.

Just note. I see I unfortunately stated “junk” instead of “bulk” in bug title, didn’t I? I was surprised by your questions. I apologize self.

I think Jorg fixed the title.
I looked so far at your D&D move.log file. I see the email moved from Bulk to Inbox. And then it immediately gets moved back to Bulk. It must be the filter doing that. What are the "rules" for the (original) filter? Do I understand that if you delete and re-setup the filter the problem doesn't occur?

I think this is a duplicate of bug 1334943. When the provider moves the message into the "bulk" folder, the inbox never saw it, so it considers it new and read, so the filter hits it. If the message goes to the inbox first, it can be moved to bulk and back.

Set pref mail.imap.filter_on_new to false and your problem will be solved. It would be great to address bug 1334943 one day.

You’re wrong the filter case is just additional behavioral information. In fact any message moved from Bulk to Inbox gets back (except the case when fresh filter move it). So this apply also to messages being not processed by any filter. This is veryfied many times.

Reporter u*, so if you totally disable the filter, does the problem go away?

When the message gets moved back to inbox either by d&d or filter, it is detected with new UID with \Seen and \Recent set. This makes it look like a new message to the Inbox filter and it looks like Buik so the filter moves it back to Bulk.
I'm not clear how many filters you have normally running and how email gets into Bulk in the first place; only by server-side filtering/delivery?
Edit: Maybe this is a server problem. A message seen and read in folder B maybe shouldn't appear \Recent (new) when moved to folder A. Not sure there is mention of this in RFC 3501.

You got good point. There was some filter probably created by some mistake or long ago that was filtering on TO (my email address) base. I not so cleverly deleted it before checking settings but I suppose it was set up to filter after junk classification and there was some precedence on other filters but why all email was not moved to Bulk, I’m not sure.

Thanks for assistance.

Well, looking at Fresh Filter.log, messages moved to Inbox are also detected as \seen and \recent but they don't get moved back to Bulk.
Reporter uz*, if you d&d a message from Bulk back to Inbox with the "fresh" filter in place, does it bounce back to Bulk?

Ok, was writing this when comment 15 came in; anyhow, glad you found the problem.

You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
