RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1562599

People

(Reporter: mikhail.zabaluev, Unassigned)

Details

(Whiteboard: [fixed by bug 1601676 in version 70])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:71.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/71.0

Steps to reproduce:

Run thunderbird-wayland on Linux, with a configured account that features some folders which have emails in them.
Drag a message item in the current mail folder and drop it into another folder in the folder list.

Actual results:
The message is moved to the destination folder.

Expected results:
The message is copied.

This looks the same as #1576268 that was fixed in Firefox 70, filing for Thunderbird to keep track.

As there will not be a version of Thunderbird using the Firefox
So we are left with a suggestion that the correct action with a drag and drop is to copy instead of move which is addressed in bug 1576268. These changes should appear in Thunderbird 68.0 and later versions under the Firefox ESR release schedule.

So have you tested a post 68 version of Thunderbird?

I meant that the issue was fixed in the Gecko engine, what's left is to follow through with a Thunderbird release that incorporates the fix.

So we are left with a suggestion that the correct action with a drag and drop is to copy instead of move which is addressed in bug 1576268.

No, I think it's the other way around: drag and drop action without modifier keys pressed should move the message between folders.

These changes should appear in Thunderbird 68.0 and later versions under the Firefox ESR release schedule.

So have you tested a post 68 version of Thunderbird?

On 68.2.2 now, the drag and drop behavior is still to copy rather than move.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/68.3.1

I can confirm:

  • Dragging a message copies the message, dragging icon has a plus sign
  • Ushing Shift modifier while dragging changes the icon to an arrow sign but also copies the message.

Same Problem here. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/68.5.0

When running under X, behaviour is as expected (drag & drop moves message, CTRL+drop copies).
When running under Wayland (MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1), drag&drop copies message (plus sign next to mouse arrow).

I think the initial report is a bit ambiguous as the reporter writes that the expected result is the message to be copied (which is to be moved instead).

Same here with Thunderbird Flatpak 68.7.0 : dragging a message to a folder copies it rather than moving & dragging icon has a plus sign & problem occurs only with Wayland session.

BUT ushing Shift modifier while dragging does move the message !

Thanks

The fix is in version 70 (beta), not in version 68 (ESR). If there is no uplift of the fix then it will not appear to until 78 ESR ETA July

The fix is in version 70, not in version 68.

I guess you mean it will be fixed in Thunderbird 78 ?

Correct, if there is no uplift of the fix (which we are discussing in bug 1562599) then it will not appear to until Thunderbird 78 ESR ETA July
