[Description:]

The issue is a bit intermittent and I couldn't reproduce on mac 11 at this point.
From observation point it always will reproduce when yandex page will show the "Yandex uses essential, analytical, marketing and other cookies. These files are necessary to ensure smooth operation of all Yandex sites and services, they help us remember you and your personal settings. For details, please read our Cookie Policy." When the above message is shown, the add search engine icon shows unknown, and if added it will shown the old icon.

[Environment:]

Reproduced with 91.0a1 2021-06-17
on Windows 10, Ubuntu 20.04
couldn't reproduce on mac 11 at this point.

[Steps:]
  1. Start with a clean profile - region/locale irelevant.
  2. Open yandex.kz page.
  3. Click again in the address bar to show the search shortcuts
  4. Observe the new suggested search engine icon
[Actual Result:]

If the cookies message is present in page, the newly suggested search engine will show with no icon and upon adding it will show the old Y icon.

[Expected Result:]

When page is fully loaded, the newly suggested engine will show the correct (new) icon

Using the default icon when the page hasn't fully loaded is bug 1654756, I'm not sure there's too much we can do about it.

For the old Y icon, this is a Yandex issue - their definition for the engine itself is still using the old icon, and that isn't controlled by us. Somewhere around is a bug about using the same name/logo on the one-offs as is defined in the search engine definition. I can't find it at the moment, but that would probably help in this situation as well.

Attached image Icons on Ubuntu

Mark, this is what happens on Ubuntu (sorry for pics quality) and OSX.

The first shot has the new icon to be added, the icon from the second SS stays like that only until the address bar dropdown is closed, after that we will have the icon from the third SS, the old Yandex icon (я).

Yes, as I mentioned above this is expected. The Yandex logo associated with the OpenSearch definition is still the old logo - Yandex need to fix that on their site (I believe we've mentioned it to them).

When the address bar is first opened, it is using the favicon from the website, not the one associated with the OpenSearch definition. Bug 1457069 is the one that I mentioned before that I couldn't find.
