User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open any website where you can listen to audio streaming:
    Examples:
    music.yandex.ru -- Most noticeably
open.spotify.com -- Noticeably, but less strongly
sber-zvuk.com -- Noticeably, but less strongly
    youtube.com -- Most noticeably
  2. Play some track/video

Actual results:

The sound stutters

In Troubleshoot Mode, the problem remains

Component: Untriaged → Audio/Video: Playback
Product: Firefox → Core

Hi, thanks for the report! Can you reproduce this in Firefox 96 (release version)? We had some audio infrastructure changes recently. If there is no problem with the FF96, it could give us a bit of a sense of what the problem might be.

To know your settings better, would you mind navigating to your about:support page, copying the raw data, pasting it into a file and upload it here?

There is no problem in Firefox 96.
I am attaching data about:support for Firefox 97 (In Troubleshoot Mode) . And Firefox 96 (just in case)

Thanks for the report! This is probably the same issue as bug 1750282, but this is the first report of issues with YouTube so I'll keep them separate until we know more.

By the way, in 97.0b4 I no longer see problems with sounds on YouTube (at least on the videos on which it was) This was relevant in the version at the time of the report ~97.0b2

Hi Roman, Thanks for attaching the about:support data! I see you're using the Airpods as your audio output device. Can you reproduce this problem with the built-in audio speaker? or this problem can only be reproduced with external output devices?

Yes

The regressing feature was disabled in 97.0b7.

Same issue in MacOS firefox Nightly 98.0a1 (2022-01-24) (64-bit)

Suprisingly only happens to me over bluetooth, doesn't seem to occur when playing from speakers.
Tried services soundcloud and youtube, Both stutter.

There's an experimental build available at https://firefox-ci-tc.services.mozilla.com/api/queue/v1/task/TUMtc6EsSh-QJn-1IaIJLQ/runs/0/artifacts/public/build/target.dmg that improves the situation significantly for me. I'd love to get feedback on whether that build improves the situation for anyone seeing this issue.

Yes, it seems there is no problem anymore.

Bug 1750938 disabled the feature, so there is no user impact from this bug. Not having audioipc probably blocks other stuff (sandboxing?), but that should be tracked elsewhere.

Severity: S2 → S4

Fixed by the landing of bug 1817043 and dependencies.
