Note
- This issue was noticed on following websites:
www.amazon.com
ici.radio-canada.ca
www.cbc.ca
Prerequisites
media.videocontrols.picture-in-picture.audio-toggle.enabled true
media.videocontrols.picture-in-picture.display-text-tracks.enabled true
Affected versions
- Firefox 100.0
- Nightly102.0a1
- Firefox 101.0b4
- Firefox 91.9.0esr
Affected platforms
- Ubuntu 22.04
- Windows 10
Steps to reproduce
- Go to Amazon Prime and play any video
- Mute the video by using the volume slider
- Open the video in Pip
- Observe the sound icon in the PiP window
- Click on the sound button inside the PiP window
- Observe the sound icon from the original player
Play following videos and repeat steps [2-6]:
https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1994098243991
https://ici.radio-canada.ca/info/videos/media-8607193/2460-entrevue-avec-michel-tremblay-immortel
Expected result
- Muting/unmuting the video by clicking the sound button in Pip window should be reflected in the original player and the sound to be turn on/off accordingly and vice-versa.
Actual Result
-
After muting the video from the original player, the video on Amazon Prime and ici.radio-canada.ca was muted, but the sound icon in the Pip window was not crossed over.
Clicking on the sound button to mute/unmute will have no effect and it is not reflected in the original player, while the sound is still turn off. -
Muting/unmuting the video from the www.cbc.ca in Pip, it is not reflected in the original player.
Regression range
Couldn't find the corresponding regression range for this issue because this can be reproduced all the way back to Nightly 86.0a1.

I think we will need to create site specific adapters for each of these sites.
But if clicking mute/unmute on the original video doesn't change the PiP window mute state (like on prime video and ici.radio-canada.ca), I think we would need to listen for an event on the original to keep the PiP video and the original video in the same state. And I don't know if we want to do that

Hmm. Okay, thank you for having a look there.
I think what I want to do is break this up into three separate bugs, one for the Prime Video issue (probably just use this bug for that actually), and then separate bugs to create adapters for the other two sites. Then we can prioritize each one independently, and figure out what (if anything) we want to do about the mute events.

This issue also occurs on original Reddit video types, not Youtube videos (ex..
The original player does not change the sound icon when the PiP mutes/unmutes.

The severity field for this bug is relatively low, S3. However, the bug has 5 See Also bugs.
:mconley, could you consider increasing the bug severity?

Lowering to S4 since it's only a cosmetic issue.

There is bug 1768692 for CBC and bug 1768694 for Radio Canada with patches.
I think the description of this bug should be changed so that this is just for fixing Amazon Prime Video.
