User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20021104 Chimera/0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20021104 Chimera/0.6
Currently only allows mouse click on the "stop" icon (clumsy) to halt page
loading or using the memorized "command + '.'" macro. Command + "." however is
not a universally known way to "stop application" on any other platform. On
other systems including Unix, accepted norms are Ctrl + "x" or "c".. or more
simply and more universally accepted to simply hit the "Escape" key. Other
browsers on the Mac platform such as IE 5.2 support Escape as a method to stop
page loading. So should Chimera.. make it easier on new users accustomed to
other browsers and other platforms.. and save the right hand of experienced Mac
users from that aweful scrunched one-handed combo on an iBook or Powerbook
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start page loading from slow server or over dialup conection.
2. Try to use Esc to stop the page from loading..
Actual Results:
Nothing good. System beep/error flash occurs with each press like the user is
doing something wrong and the page continues to load.
Expected Results:
Stopped all page/image/thread loads on the current tab/page/url same as many
other browsers including all current platform versions of IE (5.2 Mac, 6.0
Windows) Not just suggesting this small additional key check only because it
would make Chimera more easy to use for IE users switching or trying out
Chimera, but because it's honestly simpler to hit Escape than right-hand
scrunching new-user boggling COMMAND+".".. a little platform and product parity
isn't gonna hurt. In terms of user interface familiary for simple pleasures, it
can only help.

This bug is not related to bug #168379. That is a complaint about the failure
of command+"." to stop loading a page, actually more of an enhancement request
to make the Escape key function as a double for Command+".", whereas #168379 is
a bug report about command+"." not working on a paricular page.
I would say that Escape not being deployed as an equivalent to Command + "." is
is related (in a very general sense) to Bug #153836 in the sense that they are
both a concern about which keys are used for what keyboard shortcuts and what
keys and combinations are more convenient or appropriate for what purposes as
they would both fall under the general idea of keyboard macro/control
configurability.. While they are similar, they are not duplicates. #153836 is a
much more wide range topic, primarily concerned with keyboard
internationalization or localization issues and semantics for + and -. This
enhancement request is only concerned about use of the Escape key. To my
knowledge, all keyboards for Macs capable of running OS X (and therefore
Chimera) do have an Escape key, so this shouldn't fall under localization or
internationalization issues as discussed in Bug # 153836.
