Steps to reproduce:

Only on my Windows 11 laptop,
Started Thunderbird (version 102.9.1)
Entered passwords to have it retrieve email from two servers for two accounts,
Settings check (but do not download) new email every ten minutes,

Actual results:

When an email message arrives on the server,
each time that T-bird checks the server, the small red dot counter on the Windows11 taskbar continues to increment:

Expected results:

The count should show how many messages in total are awaiting retrieval from the servers.

Let's go with duplicate of bug 1824889, since it may be making progress.
We can reopen this bug if bug 1824889 doesn't resolve this.
