User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/112.0
Steps to reproduce:
Update to the nightly version with new UI.
Set layout to "Vertical" to enable new message list.
Actual results:
In old message list when "Junk" column is enabled, the user could mark email as Junk by selecting an icon in that column. This could be done without displaying the message.
Now "Junk" icons are absent in message list for email that is not marked as Junk already. Junk icons in mail pane and on toolbar(s) can be clicked only after selecting and displaying email. Right click -> Mark -> As Junk menu works, however it takes many clicks, and while user is performing all those actions Thunderbird may freeze for a while, making it even more difficult.
Expected results:
"Mark as Junk" action should be available from the message list in a single click. If hollow "Junk" icon does not look nice enough in the new message list, it can be replaced with something else, like check mark or green dot that turns into "Junk" icon and back when clicked.

As mentioned on your other bug, we'll restore an option for the tabular format in Vertical View in Bug 1823019, which will also have those action control columns again.
However, I would agree with reporter that we should explore returning some or all of those direct action iconic controls also to card's mode, probably optionally. This allows some high-efficiency mail handling without having to open each message first. Junk
would seem as the most likely candidate, but Read status
and Delete
are useful, too.

As thomas8 wrote, this would really a good enhancement to the card view. Something I really miss, when I compare it with Microsoft Outlook that I have to use at work. Sadly this bug is one year old and seems to get not much attention.

This is covered in bug 1845398. The current plan is to not implement this.
