Unified folders are available. I don't know what you're reporting. Check the ... menu on top of the folder pane.

Attempting to unify by view does not work, nor does using folder modes.(In reply to Magnus Melin [:mkmelin] from comment #1)

Unified folders are available. I don't know what you're reporting. Check the ... menu on top of the folder pane.

Yes, the options exist for unified folders, both in "View" and as a Folder Pane Option... BUT THEY ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL! THEY WILL NOT TOGGLE TO UNIFIED. Everything has been fine year after year until this newest version.

They now show at the bottom of the folder pane. Did you notice that?

No, a display at the bottom of my folder pane does not exist. Again, if I "checkmark" the option for unified folders, the checkmark does not stay. It reverts to unchecked without ever showing unified folders.

I might need to clarify here, I am using MacOS 13.6 Ventura.

Summary: Lost unified folders with supernova update and cannot redo → Enabling Unified Folder mode, the checkmark does not stick [was Lost unified folders with supernova update and cannot redo]

Please check error console before and after changing the checkmark for related information at command+shift+J.

My problem was solved...

In Mac OS Sonoma 14.1.1, and Thunderbird Supernova 115.4.2, removing "Smart Mailboxes" (folders on my machine dating back to 2012) from each profile fixed the problem of not being able to enable unified folders.

Found in ...Users/user_name/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/profile_name/Mail/smart mailboxes-n

Thunderbird recreates a new folder, "smart mailboxes" in "Mail", and everything is fine.

Somehow, my original request was posted under an old profile, @Kelly.
