User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/121.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
- Open an email in a new tab (either by double-clicking, or by right-clicking open in a new tab)
Actual results:
The mail opens in a new tab, but this tab is not focus.
This behavior is only in Beta and is a regression compared to ESR.
Expected results:
Return to ESR behavior

You can set mail.tabs.loadInBackground to false to get it to open in background.
See bug 1853923. I think it was not obeying the pref before...
Maybe there should be an UI setting for this though?

There is another bug reported requesting an enhancement.
In previous versions mail.tabs.loadInBackground did not matter if set to true or false - it did not work - double always opened in new tab with focus.
In beta 125.0b2 it now works correctly - But the default setting has not been corrected. The default is still on 'true' meaning when you open in new tab it never has focus. This is going to confuse a load of people and needs to be set to false by default.

Basically requesting the default is altered - mail.tabs.loadInBackground set to False so that selected email opens in new tab and has focus.

Indeed, mail.tabs.loadInBackground was not being used on all opening actions. I will close this bug as a duplicate as it is not the first bug filed for this preference. Project manager as well as the rest of the front-end has been made aware of this issue as well.
