User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:126.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/126.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Write a message from an IMAP account email address to that same address. The message subject should be "aaa" and the body text should be "bbb" (those seems to matter!).
  2. Click on Send, the message lands into Inbox after a while.
  3. Click on the message to make it read.
  4. Press "1" to tag it "Important".
  5. Make a new folder, "Folder".
  6. Drag-and-drop the message from Inbox to "Folder".

Actual results:

The message gets untagged.

Expected results:

The message shouldn't get untagged.

I've seen this recently, on Daily builds. However, I can't reproduce it right now.

I've seen this again today, Daily 0705, MacOS 13.6.7

Tagged a message in an IMAP INBOX, with a predefined tag: "4 To Do".

Moved the message to an IMAP sub-folder, on the same IMAP account.

Checked the message in the destination folder: tag still present.

A few minutes later, tag has been cleared.

Unlike the see also bug above, I've only ever seen this after moving a message, never seen it happen otherwise.

It doesn't seem to happen every time I move a message, only occasionally.

Are you still seeing this in version 128 or newer?

Flags: needinfo?(regspam)

Yes, I am. TB version 128.2.0esr.

Does this ever involve a "shared" imap folder as reported in bug 1892385 comment 4 ?
FWIW, I just tried the STR in comment 0 and didn't see the problem.

Does this ever involve a "shared" imap folder as reported in bug 1892385 comment 4 ?

No, it doesn't -- I move the message between "normal" IMAP folders of the same account.

FWIW, as I just learned, it only happens to one of my email accounts (specifically, mail.ru), and not the other (gmail.com).

Ok, thanks for the info that maybe server specific? I would close this as invalid but commenter Calum in comment 2 reports this issue too. Maybe he will have more info?

I definitely have seen it happen, on more than one occasion, as per my comment 2. But even then it didn't happen all the time, only occasionally, but enough to be sure I wasn't imagining it :)

It didn't happen often enough for consistent testing to see if it was IMAP-server specific.

I've not seen it for a while. But this is not an action that I do regularly, so that doesn't mean much.

I've just tried it now, with Daily 1025, and it seems fine. But since it was only ever intermittent…

Perhaps close as invalid, and we can revisit if I, or others, start to see it again. I'll make sure to record to which IMAP server it happens, if it recurs.

[and apols for delay in replying]

Thanks Calum,
Will close it for now.
