User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/131.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 Edg/131.0.0.0

Steps to reproduce:

This problem appeared with the installation of 128.6.1esr on January 27. I receive messages with web links tied to images in the message. I have always been able to open the link by clicking on the image.

Actual results:

When I click on an image tied to a link, Thunderbird does not open the link in a browser automatically. Instead, when I hover over the image, the cursor changes to a "plus" icon. If I click on the image, the size of the image increases slightly. The icon then changes to "minus", and clicking on it reduces the size of the image. To follow the link, I have to right click the image and select "Open link in browser".

Expected results:

Hovering over an image tied to a link, the cursor should change to the "hand" icon, indicating that a link exists, and clicking on the image should open the link in a browser automatically. This is what has happened with all previous versions of Thunderbird before 128.6.1esr.

Ah, I think this is because we didn't uplift bug 1917278 when we uplifted bug 1875325.

We'll get that uplifted into 128.7.0esr next week.

Windows 10 OS
TB version 128.6.1esr
I can reproduce, but if I make window larger then the magnifying +- does not occur and hover over image now produces a cursor icon indicating a link and when clicked opens as expected.

If image is already small enough to fit in 'Message Pane' displaying image as full size then clickable links auto work.
It only offers the +- if it is too small for window size to display full size.

Workaround: Increase window size.

That's a workaround, not a solution. This problem shouldn't happen. Every "clickable" link should be ... "clickable", without any "workaround".

Also, you cannot increase window size more than the size of the screen, and some of these images are bigger than the available window size.

And one more thing, on my computer this problem occurs EVEN WHEN THE IMAGE FITS INTO THE READING PANE. It's a bug, pure and simple, it needs to be fixed.

Doesn't work in linux (Ubuntu)

Also the "work around" doesn't work if you have multiple images in the email that don't all fit on the screen at once.

It's fixed with v128.7.0 (with bug 1917278)
