User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030303 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030303 Hello Mail/News -- I queried for 'junk dup' and found nothing related to duplicate message. Running IMAPS and have Junk auto-filed in custom folder 'SPAM' located on server. When I receive message Junk Filter deems spam, it marks and moveds to SPAM folder. Issue: I always have TWO copies of spam message in SPAM folder. This is primarily an issue when SpamFilter incorrectly id's valid message as spam and want to a) relocate msg to Inbox, and b) unmark msg as spam. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: only have ONE spam message in SPAM folder after move by SpamFilter.

I can confirm this on build 2003052908 and all other 1.4 builds made before that. I'm using several IMAP accounts, almost all with Junk controls enabled. While the Junk Filter is moving mail from the accounts folders to Junk on "Local Folders", I get duplicates, usually just 1, sometime more. This is happening just with the Junk Filter, not with other custom filters. The bug in my case is not always reproducible, because sometime just restarting Mozilla (temporary) solve the problem.

I can give some more information: Until recently, we used UW-IMAP as server. Under UW-IMAP everything was fine. Now we are using dovecot as imap server and the trouble of duplicated junk mail started. It happens while Mozilla is get new mail automatically from the server and declares some of the new mail as junk and moves it to the Junk Folder. As I can see in the Junk Mail Log, Mozilla thinks to "see" the junk mail more than once. I suspect that the is a timing problem. In a related problem time is crucial: When I mark a mail as junk, it gets flagged and it take up to a second before it is moved away (to the junk folder). If I mark another mail during that second as junk, it will not be moved.

I can confirm the problem also on buildID: 2003072204 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5b) Gecko/20030722 but it has become less frequent now; only few times now I can find duplicates in the junk folder; very rarely the problem become so much evident, when more that 5 copies of same messages are found... Note that I'm testing always on same IMAP server but the connection speed is not always the same (sometime modem, sometime xDSL).
hello -- still occurring sporadically for me as well. Yes, same client will produce dupes in SPAM folder one moment, then not at a different time. Using Sun Messaging v5x/v6.

I'm confirming this as the initial report of duplication of messages by the Junk filter, but this is probably actually a dupe of duplication by any filter that moves mail under IMAP, bug 167173 (also bug 193325, bug 219409).

Still present in Thunderbird version 1.5 (20060204); Mac OS X 10.4.4 See bug 326780 comment 0 for steps to reproduce and more symptoms. I've been reproducing this on a daily basis for the last month or two after I took over the list-admin address for mozilla.org (which generates about 1500 emails per day that all filters to one mailbox on the IMAP server, and 90% or better of it is typically junk). I usually wind up with about 4000 to 5000 emails in my Junk folder shortly after opening the list-admin folder.

I can confirm the presence of this bug in 2.0.0.0 Funny thing is that it didn't manifest it self in 1.5.0.8, my previous version. Windows XP, 1 GB RAM, 2.4 GHz

I have been getting this bug for some time. Using Icedove 2.0.0.4 on Debian Linux (unstable version). I get duplicates of spam, sometimes ten identical, in my Junk folder. Only one of the spams is marked as junk in the "Junk Status" column though. The emails are absolutely identical, headers and all. Some junk emails don't get duplicated at all but there seems to be no common factor. I am using IMAP to read emails from a Courier-IMAP server. I have about 15 message filters set up, 3 accounts, and several identities per account. This does make it almost unusable for me, because if I don't check emails for a few days, the thousands of duplicate spams fill up my mailbox. I am persisting with it at the moment though. Could it be a timing issue? I do have another problem that I will mention here just in case may be related to this one: when sending an email, the CPU goes to 100% and it takes about 20 seconds to send.

update: I think bug this is related to Message Filters. I have about 20 message filter rules set up. If I disable them all and periodically run them manually once the email has come in, I don't get this duplication at all. That is my workaround but it isn't ideal. It looks like a timing issue (possibly just with IMAP) where the processing done by the message filters is clashing with the processing done by the Junk Mail filter.

(With the Thunderbird Junk feature enabled) 1- If I enable a move filter with message object containing [SPAM] (analysed by spamassassin) to my spam folder. The messages in it are duplicated about 3 or more times. 2- If I disable the move filter. No duplicates... I'm using imap and postfix. Maybe it helps

anyone have account setting for the server at cached connections=1?
Comment 18•16 years ago

For me, with cached connections = 1 or everythings else, this is the same => duplicate messages. I've not found any solution for the moment.

The same here, it still renders thunderbird to nearly unusable as it produces dozens of duplicates. thunderbird-2.0.0.14 / Gentoo Linux (had the same in 1.5 series) using courier-imap-4.0.6 + postfix-2.4.6

Please try 2.0.0.15 when it comes out - the fix in bug 381588 should help. Marking as dup.
