Steps to reproduce:
After performing a standard Thunderbird update, some default folders (such as Sent, Trash, etc.) lost their Italian localization.
Actual results:
The folder names changed from their localized versions (e.g., Cestino) to English ones (e.g., Trash), and the names cannot be modified through folder properties.
Expected results:
After the update, the folder names should have remained in their localized form, preserving the correct Italian translation. All other interface elements remain properly translated. Additionally, after testing with several colleagues, we found that version 144 consistently causes localization issues, although not uniformly: for some users, certain folders (like Trash) remain correctly localized, while others are displayed in English.
I don’t personally consider this a critical issue, but several clients have expressed complaints about it.

Same here in Germany. But not all providers are affected. Google, Microsoft and the german providers web.de and gmx.de are not affected, while t-online and my own cyrus based IMAP Server are affected.

Hi,
I recognize this bug is closed, but we are looking for some testing of a fix for this issue as soon as possible (release is Tues Jan 13th).
We have a fix that we are uplifting to 147.0 that limits localization of special folder names to specific names, and adds the mail.useLocalizedFolderNames preference to toggle that localization.
To test you will have to install Thunderbird from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/candidates/147.0b5-candidates/build1/. Note that we don't plan to release an official 147.0b5 because we already merged beta->release and it gets complicated to unwind the merge.
Please reach out with any feedback, good or bad, if you're able to test.
Thanks in advance,
Corey
