User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030516 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030516 Mozilla Firebird/0.6

I have configured firebird to use a proxy server by pointing it at my company's
auto-proxy configuration script. This works fine. However, when I first launch
firebird, the attempt to load my home page (http://www.google.com/) hangs. If I
then click the "home" icon, it loads with no problem. This makes me suspect
that the request for the home page is going out before the proxy information has
been loaded.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Brand new installation
2. Point configuration at autoproxy script
3. set home page to google
4. exit firebird
5. launch firebird
6. watch firebird hang on initial request for home page
7. click home icon and see firebird load home page

Expected Results:
initial request for home page should have worked.
Eric, thanks for reporting this bug. Unfortunately this one seems to be a dupe
of bug #100022 filed against SeaMonkey. So please always check if your problem
can be reproduced also in Mozilla SeaMonkey before filing bugs against Mozilla
Firebird (see also http://texturizer.net/firebird/bugs.html#2).

REOPEN to depends.

When you firefox people file this bug and mark it as a dupe, it disappears from
future queries, more people re-file, then re-dupe. I'm tired of getting a lot of
dupe reports in the original bug.

Please try to modify this summary so it catches as many reporters as possible.

In today's build, PAC did not work.:-(

Exact same issue here. Was fine until Firefox 1.0.6 and beyond. Will no longer
load the initial homepage unless you reload it. Quite annoying!
I just updated to 1.0.6 on Win2K and found this new behavior.

Also, note that it's not just having a problem loading the configured homepage,
but whatever first page is attempted. I have a blank "homepage" which works
just fine. But the first page load of any bookmark or address will pull up my
corporation's must-use-proxy error page instead.

The option for the proxy file is remembered. If I hit "Reload" then subsequent
queries work. It appears to just fail to load the proxy file on process
startup. Subsequent windows have no problem, but the problem reappears after
all windows close (and the process shuts down).
1.0.7 - VERIFIED
Hello, I am trafficMonitor developer from Kaspersky Lab, Russia.
I have found the problem with opening home page in Firefox through my proxy. I
know why it happens.
There are two steps:
1. Firefox starts first connection for download proxy configuration script.
   >> Firefox is not waiting for finish of download the script!
2. Firefox starts second connection for download homepage. Now Firefox don't
know about proxy and it tries to connect to homepage DIRECTLY.

You have to synchronize these two steps!

Here is my short trace:

This bug will never be fixed for FF 1.0.x. Please add only new comments if you see this with FF 1.5 or higher. Please upgrade to FF 1.5 to solve the issue.

Up graded to 1.5 or whatever the latest version is and still no improvement. Hell i miss my FF and Mozilla doesn't work either
I found missing FF files in a Norton AntiVirus Folder (I think Quarinteed and they were deleted too) I Removed Norton AV (it didn't want to go quietly) and FF just started up without any further action by me.
I switched from Symantec to ZoneAlarm and found Symantec quarantined a vital file (chrome?" when I applied an earlier Firefox update. "F" Symantec.

It looks like this bug came and went from Firebird 0.6 through Firefox 1.5.... Is it still present in Firefox 3? (I would venture to guess that it would have made more of a ruckus if it were....)
Whiteboard: [closeme 2009-03-14]
I'm behind a corporate proxy configured via PAC file and Firefox doesn't hang at startup.

So WFM.

Looks like this was fixed somewhere along the way. Marking as RESOLVED WORKSFORME, per comment 18.

If this bug does happen to pop up again in the future, I'd recommend filing a new bug.
