User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030612 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030612 Dragging a URL or URL icon from the address input field to the personal toolbar area doesn't work. The personal toolbar item is not created and a "beep" is played instead. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Select a URL or URL icon 2.Attempt to drag to the personal toolbar area (which contains "Home" and "Bookmarks" by default) 3. Actual Results: A short alert "beep" tone is played and nothing happens. Expected Results: The dragged URL should have been added to the personal toolbar area.
I found the cause and a work-around for this bug. The problem apparently is that no folder is, by default, designated as the personal toolbar folder. If you "manage bookmarks", add a folder and then via the View Menu designate the folder as your personal toolbar folder the personal toolbar then works, you can drag URL icons into it, etc. So I guess this bug might better be called "no default personal toolbar folder". doug
I also found this problem on Mozilla 1.5 on Linux, I think it is a cross platform bug. Really the browser should pop up a message explaining the situation when a link is added to the personal toolbar when there is no personal toolbar folder selected in the bookmarks. Should this bug belong in the bookmarks component?
Can anyone reproduce this with a recent build?

Is the personal toolbar folder empty when this happens? If so, check out bug 224112. Could this be a dupe?
I forgot this in my other comment; sorry. Bug 214155 also looks like it might be related.
See bug 88711 for the issue of not being able to add stuff to the Personal Toolbar (PT) if the PT folder is deleted. The issue in here seems to be that there wasn't any PT folder set as default? Or did it disappear? If Dough is on mac os 10.1.5 this could be related to bug 221843 (bookmarks lost). Dough, what version of mac os are you on? Can you still reproduce this with a current build?
Mac OS X 10.2.8 Firebird build: Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7a) Gecko/20040127 Firebird/0.8.0+ Dragging a URL or it's icon from the URL input field to the bookmarks bar results in the successful creation of a bookmark. Also successfully ads within folders on the bar.
Since nobody seems to be able to reproduce this and the last comment from the reporter is over 6 months old --> wfm.
