Details
Bug 216501 made me think of this and I guarantee others have thought about it too. Bug 216501 is about making a pane in preferences about associations. Some people didn't want the extra UI. My idea for compromise was "Standard Extensions" Mozilla can provide that aren't installed automatically but are distributed on FTP for users that want them. This would be one other way to solve UI quibbles on things that don't fit into the Firebird charter. It could apply to Seamonkey too, and some of our features in Seamonkey that are not in Firebird could be repackaged into extensions for both. These extensions would be supported by Mozilla.org. Some examples: - Web Development Extension (JS Console, DOM Inspector, ...) - Advanced Preferences Extension (Manual changing of hidden prefs (like about:config, extra preferences, ...) - View Source extension - Associations Modification Extension Windows - Associations Modification Extension X-Windows (Gnome, KDE, etc)

Standard extensions would be montained by Mozilla.org, and would be (unlike the 3rd party extensions) listed on a page on the Mozilla site: bug 232845 bug 232846 - Create standard web development extension for Firebird (DOM Inspector, Javascript Console, and Venkman) bug 232849 - View Source can be outsourced to an extension
