I couldn't figure out how to install a theme I had as a .jar I'd already
downloaded. The theme manager should have text on it saying, "To install a
theme you've already downloaded, drag and drop it onto the theme list" or
something similar.

bug 247809, and bug 244662. Is this bug valid?

Those two appear to be about broken functionality. This bug is about letting
the user know the functionality exists.

Though the Help Documentation should include this (I don't know if it does or
not), the bug's recommended solution would be a change to Extension/Theme Manager.
I do agree with the reporter's method of 'fix', you could for instance put the
text message in the theme's listing box, at the bottom where themes aren't
likely to cover it up yet.
I've been using this browser since Octover 2002 when it was Phoenix 2002. I
would never have known how to install themes with this new method if someone had
not told me how. This really needs fixing badly.

I'm not 100% pleased with the location of the text I added, but it's ok. I'd
like to move it down and left a tiny bit, but I'm not skilled enough with XUL
to do that.

"an theme"? Copy/paste mistake. Fixed.

1. This is not a duplicate of 242553. That one is about adding a button or
something for installing themes. This one is about telling a user how to install
a theme from a jar file of a HD.
2. I am using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7)
Gecko/20040806 Firefox/0.9.1+ and I see no instructions on how to install a
theme from a .jar file.
It isn't fixed, and it needs to be.

I can WONTFIX this as well, it won't make a difference.
For the record, here's the short version: adding the text string is incredibly
less useful than hooking up the Install button, so it was either do that or we
do nothing. Given that doing that was WONTFIX (and intentionally left out by
design), the likelihood of adding a "how-to" text string for what should be a
limited-use case is basically zero.
