User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040913 Firefox/0.10 When entering a page/site with several stored accounts (as in Gmail in this case), entering one of the user names and pressing TAB key results in two (2) windows both prompting for the master password. This was not present in version 0.9.3 (where entering the first letter of one of the user names initiates the Master password dialog. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to a website where more than one account data are stored 2. Enter a user name and press TAB key 3. Two (2) Master Password windows appear. Actual Results: Will have to close one of the two Master Password windows and use the next one. Expected Results: Only one master password window should open. A better mechanism should be used for pages with multiple accounts. A method similar to Opera's "wand button" would be nice; thier method is, however, not bug free. Proosed mecahnism: 1. A click on a password button or a keyboard shortcut prompting for the master password 2. After successfuly entering the Master password, the data is automatically pasted into the available fields. If more than one account are stored for the webpage/server, a window with a list of the user names pops up. 3. Selecting the desired user name would paste the data into the page fields. WinXP SP1a, 800 MHz, 512MB SDRAM, 1GB hard disk space on the initial (WinXP) partition (more than enough on the other partitions where FF is running.
Another bug in the password manageris that when I select "never this site", the setting cannot be reversed. i.e. FF will not promt me to remeber the user name and password (as expected), but when I go to: Tools->Options->Privacy->Passwords->View->Never Saved There is nothing there. I cannot reverse the setting "Never this site". This occured with Gmail. Even after deleting both accounts from the saved in the password manager, the setting is still there. I have rproduced the bug using the back up of my "signons.txt" file.

Firefox password manager is not the app-suite password manager. Please, please, please do not combine different bugs in one report. That's a good way to absolutely guarantee one of them will get ignored, and possibly both. I was about to close this bug dupe on the second issue but realized the original issue was something else. GMail is a bad test case for your second issue, they recently added the autocomplete="off" attribute which firefox respects. No matter what the setting we won't be saving GMail passwords anymore--unless you get a DOM-modifying bookmarklet, but that's beyond most people. When I say "Never for this site" the site does indeed show up in the dialog and can be removed, at least for site that don't have the autocomplete="off" attribute. Again, please keep the autocomplete issue out of this bug to avoid confusion; search for the many dupes (some mentioning gmail.google.com).

(In reply to comment #2) I have added the second portion as bug 260648 I have tried to use the bookmarklet "remember password" from: http://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/forms.html and the extension "Always Remember Password" from: http://extensions.roachfiend.com/index.php to no avail.
The bookmarklets alter the DOM of the main frame, but don't walk into subframes. Workaround is to right-click on the login frame, select "This Frame", then "Open frame in new window". On the new window the bookmarklet will work.
Confirming this, with my Portable FF 1.0. This bug has not appeared in any other builds (I've used RC1, 0.9, 0.8, etc., but not RC2). https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ works, apparently since I have only one username / password, but at an internal CERN site, https://edms.cern.ch/Dasbuilt/plsql/mtf.home, where I have saved several u/ps, the problem exists. Please set to confirmed
This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. Present and annoying in Fx1.5, at least at http://www.kingdomofloathing.com/
Confirming. To reproduce: - go to a website such as forums.mozillazine.org - Enter a username and password (say dummy1/dummy1), and let firefox remember it - Restart firefox, visit forums.mozillazine.org again - Enter a new username and password (say dummy2/dummy2) and let firefox remember it - Restart firefox, visit forums.mozillazine.org again - Enter one username, say dummy1. - Two master password dialog boxes appear simultaneously. Summary: Two windows for Master password appear after entering one (of several) use names → Multiple (at least Two) dialog boxes for Master password appear after entering one (of several) usernames
This bug is still present in Firefox 1.5.0.1
More symptoms, presumably of this bug... 1. Go through the steps to get two password boxes up. 2. Cancel them both. 3. Two more pop up (instead of Fx stopping asking for the password). 1. Go through the steps to get two password boxes up. 2. Enter the wrong password in one of them. 3. Two more pop up (making a total of 3, counting the original one you didn't enter the password in). Repeatedly clicking on "OK" causes the screen to be flooded with password boxes...
Please note bug 269138 comment 13. I am seeing this behavior with Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; U; Warp 4.5; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060531 MultiZilla/1.8.2.0i SeaMonkey/1.5a. My proposal in the above comment is/was to create a meta-bug for tracking multiple password prompt issues, as these may or may not be related. The above notwithstanding, the thread on this bug has drifted considerably from where it began, and the most recent symptoms (other issues?) should probably be moved to other bugs or have new reports created. Updating URL to mozillazine as gmail actively disables password save
After fixing bug Bug 371525, this bug appears to have been resolved. The error cannot be reproduced anymore in Firefox 2.0.0.3 with Gmail.

It seems unlikely that 371525 would have fixed this, because it addresses a very specific regression caused by bug 360493 in Firefox 2.0.0.2. If anyone else is still seeing this, please REOPEN.
I started using Opera for the sites with multiple accounts when 2.0.0.2 came out. Did someone verify this bug in version 2.0.0.2? The change may have occurred along with the regression reported in 2.0.0.2
Verified fixed with 2.0.0.3 on mozillazine as well.

This bug is still present in Firefox 76. Everytime I open Firefox, it asks for master password, I put it in, then another master password box appears.

You can dismiss the second one because if you try to go to a page that requires passwords, it will be logged in/able to pull data.

The second master password dialogue box should not be popping up.

This is Mac OS X 10.13.6 (can't upgrade to newest OS as working on Macbook Pro mid 2010, so not sure if this is part of the issue)

Please file a new bug as this one was fixed. Make sure that you don't have the Lockwise add-on installed as that feature is now built-in. Also indicate in your report if the issue happens in safe mode and what exact tabs load when Firefox starts e.g. what pinned tabs, how many windows, etc.

You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
