User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

I use Firefox 1.0 always in maximized mode (in Windows). When using 'Open links
from other applications' set to 'a new tab in the most recent window', opening a
new link resizes the browser window to the 'normal' size. This should not occur.

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Firefox 1.0 in maximized mode.
2. Tools --> Options --> Advanced --> Tabbed Browsing
3. Set 'Open links from other applications' to 'a new tab in the most recent
window'.
4. Go to another application, click a hyperlink.

Actual Results:
Browser will resize to 'normal' size.

Expected Results:
Browser window size and maximized mode should NOT have changed.

Am using theme GrayModern 0.6.2 by Bernie Zimmerman; however bug can be
reproduced with default theme.

Ben, I am attempting to catalog more details about the ability to replicate this
problem. For example, I seem to have confirmed that clicking on a link from the
Lotus Notes mail client does NOT cause this problem. However, clicking a link
from the Trillian Pro Instant Messenger client DOES cause it. I'll post the
information I can find back here to the bug.
Yikes! I have been testing, and found results exactly opposite to my last
comment. I have now experienced this bug with both Lotus Notes and the Trillian
IM client (using AOL).

Closing in on 1.8b5 - since this is not a regression from 1.0 and behavior is
unclear minusing for now.

Hrm... now I can't even reproduce with my steps in comment 6. This appears to be
fixed now. Can anyone else confirm?

Are you guys 100% sure it's gone for you?

I'm still seeing this bug using the latest Deer Park nightly (20051013) in Win
XP with all the latest updates. I used a clean install and a fresh profile and
can still reproduce after clicking an external link in an email (Thunderbird
1.5b2). No extensions or third-party themes.

I also tried external links from other products and got mixed results. The bug
occurred when invoking MS Word Online Help, "About Quicktime", and clicking
buttons in several other applications that call up web pages. However I
consistently couldn't reproduce the bug when calling up the web pages from
within Nero StartSmart, or from the Second Nature screensaver system tray icon.
The consistency suggests that it depends on the way the external link is opened
(as per comment 2).
I'm still seeing this bug

Interesting that you see the bug in the 1.5 branch, Aaron. I can't reproduce it
using the latest nightly for that branch (20051016/1.4.1). But I can reproduce
it for the latest nightly on the trunk (20051016/1.6a1).
Ok, here's what I'm seeing.

I minimize firefox, click on a link, and up it opens in its non-maximized mode,
even though I had it maximized before minimizing it.

After reading comment 0 it may not be the same bug, but for sure they'd be related.

I am not sure that the last duplicate is this issue. It has nothing to do with maximizing the window, it is about that you get a small window + the a normal window when you click on a link in an external app.

This small window that appears has no controls or content. Looks like a small popup window with no content
José, the way I understood it was that the "small window" was just the browser in its unmaximized state. The behavior to produce the small window is exactly the same as it is to reproduce this bug. I don't know how you know what the "small window" looks like just from reading bug 314905.
I can reproduce Comment 6 in Firefox 1.5. If Firefox is Maximized and I click on a link in Outlook or Thunderbird, a new maximuzed tab is opened. However, if Firefox was maximized and then minimized, clicking on a link in Outlook or Thunderbird opens a Firefox with a new tab but the window is "normal" - that is, not maximized.
There is now a fix for this in bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220900

WOOT!
