It seems like we could make some more improvements to bug entry for Bugzilla to prevent stuff slipping past the entry header which tells users what to not to. I'm suspecting people are being overwhelmed by this, and I think we can do better. I'm attaching a new version for consideration. I haven't really changed the content, what I've done is: - Give prefixes/headers to each paragragh to allow fast scanning. - Try to avoid techy language (such as file, and the use of "bug" to include RFEs) - Remove a bit of unnecessary verbiage. - Clarify a few details so as to not scare users. This might be worth being raised to developers.
>If you aren't reporting that either Bugzilla has a bug or doesn't have a feature I had to read this a couple times to get the meaning to sink in. If it confused me, the newbies will be clueless. Then again, maybe I'm just tired (I have been up all night). How about: "If you aren't reporting that either Bugzilla has a bug or Bugzilla doesn't have a feature" It's slightly wordier but less likely to be confused. The link for the mozilla-webtools mailing list should go to the MailMan list info page rather than being a mailto: link. We want to encourage them to subscribe first, otherwise I'll wind up having to moderate it :) http://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/mozilla-webtools
Where exactly does this go? At the top of the format=guided entry page? I've a patch pending which simplifies that page and hopefully improves the wording. It's over in bug 261671. Gerv
Gerv, this appears on both formats I think. This text however is bmo and Bugzilla product specific, so I doubt you've covered it there.
Oh, right. How did I miss that? :-) Gerv
>"If you aren't reporting that either Bugzilla has a bug or Bugzilla doesn't have >a feature" How about: "Unless you're reporting a bug or requesting a feature in *Bugzilla*"
(In reply to comment #6) > How about: > > "Unless you're reporting a bug or requesting a feature in *Bugzilla*" That was the original wording that we removed a while back. That wording causes more confusion because it's ambiguous whether you are referring to bugzilla.mozilla.org or the Bugzilla application. "I need to report a bug or request a feature in Bugzilla that affects Firefox" is a perfectly valid thing to say, because when someone asks about reporting a bug in Firefox, they're told "go report it in Bugzilla."

ok, we fixed this a while back, bug it was broken because of bug 281881. That's been fixed now.
