User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041215 Firefox/1.0+ Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041215 Firefox/1.0+ You cannot print using an installer build. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Visit any webpage. 2. DO a File -> Print 3. Actual Results: A selct printer dialog appers but when you selct the printer and click OK, nothing happens, no preparing document progressmeter, no printed output. Expected Results: the preparing document progress meter should have appeard followed by output fromthe printer. Printing works fine form zip builds. After the failed print attempt, attempting to print again results in a "not available" pop-up. Also, at this point you can only navigate by selcting links on the disaplyed page. Trying to navigate from the URL bar or by clicking on a bookmark results in the you can't change documents while in print preview pop-up.
I am tagging this bug as aviary landing although it is a bit late, because it fails with the first installer build that actually installs and launches that was created since the landing, so my best guess is that this has not worked since the landing.

Summary: Can;t print using installer builds → Can't print using installer builds
Won't print for me neither. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041216 Firefox/1.0+ Beast Exe
Using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041215 Firefox/1.0+, installer version, WindowsXP Home,LaserJet4, I just printed this Bugzilla report, along with the MozillaZine message that asks that this bug be added to the list for the release I'm using http://savanna.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=184558&start=30 (Not arguing the case, simply reporting my results.)
That is strange. Fails for me with WIN XP professional SP2 and exaclty the same build and printer.
Maybe the following could help : - I can print with a "FILE:" printer without problem - Trying printing the 1st time with my usual printer (USB001), then - seeing that it doesn't work - willing to go to another page fails with "Alert - The document cannot change while Printing or in Print Preview. [OK]" (see attached image)
I spoke too fast : my "FILE:" printer doesn't work anymore with Fx. Why ? Maybe a profile problem, I don't have time anymore to test that. The "cannot change" popup now appears with my file printer as well. However, the layout engine is going haywire when I do this : 1. I print the BBC News front page (http://news.bbc.co.uk/ , past the cookie page) 2. The printing fails. I can check it with the "Home" button : the "cannot change" popup appears instantly. 3. I click on several of the subject items to the left. This time I can "change document", in a way. 4. Now just hover on all the links of the page. Now you see that something wrong happened. 5. Repeat a bit steps 3 and 4. 5. Try "Print Preview" now. Funnier than ever ! Even the latest news ticker is running in Print Preview ...
( Comment 6 verified with a fresh profile and latest trunk installer build Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8a6) Gecko/20041216 Firefox/1.0+ no additional extensions or themes)
Unfortunately, my Comment #3 is no longer valid: While I was able to print two days ago, that is no longer true, not even with a brand-new profile.

Not sure Bug 269616 is a dup. It's with zip builds and tested with new profile.
I can print either. What's more , I can't print-preview after trying to print.

Tried 3 different Builds to date and because I have a lot of Printing to do has sadly reverted back to the 11-15-04 Branch build Firefox 1.0
Unable to change back to the normal view after trying to print in preview. After clicking "Close" button, the tabs come back, but the print preview toolbar ramained. A hybrid between two modes.
This is a simple installer packaging issue. Copying the file layout_printing.xpt from the applications components folder from a zip build corrects the issue. Therefore, the fix is to add layout_printing.xpt to the list of files packaged into browser.xpt in the installer build.
Attached patch proposed-patchSplinter Review
This patch should fix the problem by adding layout_printing.xpt to packages-static.

Why has this not landed yet?

now that this has review and the tree is open, could someone help by landing this (I don't think wgianopoulos has CVS access)? It would be nice to get this smoketest blocker fixed...

Since this appears to be just a missing file from the installer, is this something that can be remedied by grabbing this file and dropping it into the directory structure created by the Firefox installer? Alternately, are there plans for an interim release before 1.1 which might include the fix for this?

This problem never existed in any release version of Firefox. Therefore, there would not be any reason to have an interim release.
