User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050517 Firefox/1.0.4 (Debian package 1.0.4-2) Build Identifier: If windows is set to hide file extensions, as you save an attachment with right click -> Save As and change the name of the file (the "save as type:" box shows only "All files"), you lose the extension of the file. If you don't change the filename everything goes fine. Instead, if you doubleclick on the attachment and chose Save to Disk you can change the name and everything works (the "save as type:" box displays both "All Files" and the correct file type, for example pdf). This is a big problem for non experts. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set windows to hide file extensions 2. right click on an attachment 3 [review]. choose Save as 4. in the save as dialog box change the file name 5. click save Actual Results: the file saved has no extension Expected Results: keep the file extension

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. Not sure if this is a dupe of Core bug 129979, definitely related though. Could someone look at bug 129979 and mark this as a duplicate or re-open this bug? (I can't re-open it)
Please Reopen this bug! I can't. I have this problem also with thunderbird version 1.5 (20051201) and previously with a 1.0.x version. I have my file extensions hidden in windows but every time I right-click on an attachment (including inline images in an html message) and choose 'save as', the original file extension is gone if I change the text in the 'file name' field, even if the text is changed back to the original the extension is gone. This definitely isn't the same as bug 129979 which is about changing the expected file extension as far as I can tell, but I'm no coder so they may still be related. The is a considerable number of 'mystery files' on my mum's computer because of this bug.
