I have a folder called "yahoo" inside my Local Folders and there is another folder inside called "opzz". I use the "Fetch headers only" setting for all the 3 accounts I have. Whenever I open up any of the messages in that folder (either in the Message Pane or in a new window), and the message weights a bit, I can obviously see the info:
"Not Downloaded
Only the headers for this message were downloaded from the mail server.
Click here to download the rest of the message."
The problem is that when I hit "here" my messages get deleted :( Basically, I'm not able to read the rest of the messages and they disappear from the messages list. I tried searching them using the Search Messages facility cause I thought they might have been moved elsewhere but it didn't help, apparently they were all gone.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Fetch headers only - ON
2. view the message
3. "Click here to download the rest of the message"
4. The message gets deleted (happens only in certain folders)
Actual Results:
message deleted
Expected Results:
the whole message downloaded from the server and displayed in the message pane or in a new message window

This happens to me when I have two headers with the same Subject from the same sender. When I click "Download the rest of the message" TB downloads one of the messages and deletes the other on the server without downloading it. Result: second message irretrievably lost! TB 1.5.0.2 (20060308), Windows 2000.

I don't think 287728 is related. This might be a dupe of bug 265553.
Comment 2 here is an interesting observation.

do you see this in version 2?
Summary: Mail deleted when downloading the rest of the message in Message Pane → Mail deleted when downloading the rest of the message in Message Pane with pop setting "Fetch headers only"
Version: unspecified → 1.5

Keith, your issue is unique. please file a new bug.
reporter writes: I'm not able to answer it properly as I stopped using Windows (and Thunderbird as well) a long while ago.
so closing this bug incomplete (won't be able to test/verify any fixes)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
- using a http://freemail.web.de freemail account (a popular freemail provider in germany)
- using the option "do not download messages larger than XX kB" (5kB is good
for reproducing) OR "download headers only"
- immediately downloading the rest of all truncated messages without waiting
for the POP3 poll time limit to expire (web.de freemail accounts: 15min)
RESULT: DATALOSS (the first message may be retrieved correctly, but all others
are gone / they disappear completely)
using thunderbird 2.0.0.14 (nothing changed since 1.0.3 :-( )
reproducible: always
severity: MAJOR / CRITICAL
