RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 318992

To replicate issue (probably the best explanation of the problem I can manage right now):

Create a new profile, with test info in the new account setup (mail checking/sending isn't required):
Add 'Fed' (first name) to the address book, with whatever email address.
Write a new message, in the 'to' box, type in 'F'. Sure enough, 'Fed' appears, fine.
Add another entry to the address book, 'Wilma', with whatever email address.
Write a new message, try 'F' for 'fed', which works, then another new message, 'W' for 'Wilma' which also works. Only one should appear on either occasion, fine.
Add another entry to the address book, 'Fred', with whatever email address.

Write a new message, 'F', only 'Fed' appears. Say hello to bug. 'Fred' should also appear in the list of matches.

This bug doesn't affect 1.0.x, it does however affect 1.5 RCx.

Reproducible: Always
I can't reproduce this problem.

xref bug 318992, bug 314047 (neither of which I can reproduce) and bug 299890 (which I can).
I have a similar bug to report. It also concerns address book autocomplete, is completely reproducable, and seems to have arrived with Thunderbird 1.5 - it definitely wasn't there before (the relevant part of the address book data hasn't changed anyway).

I am using Thunderbird version 1.5 (20051201) on Windows XP SP2 fully patched.

My bug is as follows. I have two entries in my address book:
- Mike Hughes (with 'mike' as the alias)
- Hugh Spencer (with 'hugh' as the alias)

If I type 'hugh' into the address field of a new email, with T'bird 1.5 it always selects Mike Hughes, whereas before 1.5 it would select Hugh Spencer.

As you can see, I have an appropriate alias to try to ensure that it picks up the right name.

Let me know if you need more information or background.

There was a change in TB 1.5 to place more-frequently-used addresses at the top of the list -- which requires selecting addresses within 1.5 for a while before the frequencies are set up. Bug 323364 is about the problem of failing to give priority to nicknames (which I assume is what you mean by "alias"); I see
you've already found that. :)

Mike Coppins, do you think your bug is a dupe of one of those mentioned in comment 1? Or can you provide a more detailed list of steps to reproduce?
Dupe of #318992, methinks.

Agree it is a duplicate, I found 318992 afterwards and posted there too (at least a vote for nicknames having priority over recently used names).
