Oh, and BTW, we should replace that Netscape URL there with something we set up
ourselves, we probably should file another bug for getting that in place - or
we remove the whole web-fetched sidebar customization list functionality.
]
<http://mxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/search?string=sidebar-rdf.netscape.com>
reports one use only:
[
sidebar-rdf.netscape.com
/suite/browser/browser-prefs.js,
* line 342 -- pref("sidebar.customize.all_panels.url", "http://sidebar-rdf.netscape.com/%LOCALE%/sidebar-rdf/%SIDEBAR_VERSION%/all-panels.rdf");
]
This looks like a (wanted) duplicate of bug 216166,
which was duped to bug 49367, which was WontFixed.
(Bug 37877 seems +/- related too...)

We should build up such a directory either on www.seamonkey-project.org or a subdomain, need to talk to Mozilla IT about that.
We probably also should contact Netscape/AOL in some way to get the current data they have at the old URL as a base for our new directory.

I don't think that AOL/Netscape even realizes that these files exist any more (for example the CNN sidebar location moved somewhere else ages ago) or even that that particular server exists at all. I think ever since the Netscape division's in-house server administrator was given the pink slip, those servers have been basically running on automatic. Somebody could ask Jay Gracia about the current status.

This is also related to my bug 384178 which comments about the next two lines in that file...

I don't particularly like this, but I see we need it with the current (still
existing and working) Netscape URLs. We probably can remove that when we are
creating our own sidebar directory somewhere.

CC Jay Garcia to see if he knows of the appropriate contact inside AOL/Netscape.

Well after blanking the pref didn't have the desired effect to not show errors in the log I removed the whole function. Means this bug here just became a duplicate.
I know it is unlikely after all these years but please reopen if someone wants to still construct a new rdf site so that we can add the feature back.
