User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121120 Firefox/3.0b2 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121120 Firefox/3.0b2 The Spell Checker in Firefox 2 is an awesome adition but lacks basic functionality. Now I agree it can't be as good as Word right now but I seriously have to copy words into a search and google it and google will say "Did you mean". What we could try to do is TRY to work with Google to ubtain an auto-updated dictionary set that updates weekly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Kind of complicated to explain steps to product. You know what I mean. But Use Firefox 2.0.11 or above for a long time and type a lot in emails and in Blogging areas. 2. Notice Firefox's behavior to your misspells a lot of them have poor auto correct suggestions on fixing the word. Actual Results: Firefox doesn't list the proper words to I expect to find or doesn't rank them by relvantcy so the word I am looking for might be in the middle or at the bottom not always at the top like I expect. And the suggestions are not always accurate. Expected Results: I expected Firefox to be a little better and a bit more accurate if I misspell a word I have to figure out a different misspelling so that Firefox will catch the correct suggestions. This may be as simple as swapping a letter to the next letter over. Here is something type swaping notice Firefox says it's misspelled. Right click and you will know what I am talking about. The word suggested as first is swamp. {Swap != swamp} I am willing to help the best way I can. This might be more of a block to Firefox 3.0 because this is important to get this fixed, but I also know that there are many things to do to the spell checker and to Firefox 3.0 such as the new UI. So this might not be a top priority so I will not fuss over it on 3.0 but feel free to block 3.0.

You don't seem to mention what you mean by "can't not distinguish punctuated words." Perhaps it is this: I am always mistyping ; for ' so I have don;t and such. That often (always?) seems to cause the spell checker to find just the don part, so it is necessary to correct the trailing ;t by hand.
not exactly I mean when I spell things with a trailing 's' or sometimes the ' it will mark the entire word is wrong because it has that punctuation or 's'.
Summary: Spell Checker poorly suggests corrections and can't not distinguish punctuated words → Spell Checker poorly suggests corrections and can't identify words with different endings

Yes I have noticed this, the Firefox 3 string is great in spelling and in overall performance. I can't blieave how much better it suggests spelling, I am find that I no longer have to check in Google as much any more. I will mark it as fixed. And since I am the owner of the bug, I can state that it is VERIFIED and can be marked as such. I have notice that bug# 417628 is a duplicate of this bug. -Mike Please mark as VERIFIED.
