folder chooser (all/favourite/etc) doesn't use gtk to draw arrows on switcher buttons.

I suggest mark this Severity as trivial, this is not brake anything nether big issue but more like UI fix.

yes, cosmetic UI issues are sev=trivial according to definition https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#bug_severity

unless a) the icons are not being drawn at all, or b) the wrong mechanism is being used to generate the icon. I don't use linux so someone else will need to decide.

They are drawn just fine, I'm not sure why you would want them drawn by gtk specifically. (It's not like it's a very common ui element, so how would it differ.)

Thunderbird needs to integrate with GTK as well as it is possible.

Using native GTK components makes program use consistent (try to remember some apps on Windows, which don't use native widgets, you'll understand).

given bug 490329 was fixed to resolve what was deemed a serious UI issue, if it didn't fix this bug then it seems sad to be waiting on bug 412773 (unless classic is not a commonly used theme?) whose last comment reads
"We don't seem to have a compelling reason to take this [patch] at the moment. If
someone comes up with one, we can revive the patch --- there's probably nothing
wrong with the code."

is bug 534312 not a dup?

We can theme that better. I don't see us removing the use of xul for those things.
