This bug deals with the potential productization changes for the getting started page in bug #428145

Read bug #428145 for more details.

If you think your locale needs to have some link changes in the above bug, propose them here for approval. If you don't, just close the bug.
are there any bulgarian sites that would be better to link to than those already listed? I fear that some of these are not in bulgarian and would be a poor user experience. Please LMK what you think or ask your community for feedback. thanks

Hi,

I'm sorry for the big delay in handling this. I'll look for good options in the near days. What is certain for the above is that http://vbox7.com/ is very popular YouTube-like site.
Hi,
some suggestions form me: http://svejo.net/ - a digg like site.
http://www.clix.bg/ or http://edno23.com/ - twitter,
obviously http://bg.wikipedia.org
For social networking I'd suggest zip.bg but with some reservations, because it is invite-only site.

Great suggestions, thank you both.

For twitter-like: edno23 seems to be more popular (according to Alexa). Can you confirm this?

For social networking: we'd definitely prefer something open to registration. Are myspace or facebook popular in Bulgaria?

Ognyan, what do you think about Velislav's ideas?
svejo.net is ahead in popularity when compared to other social bookmarking sites. (dao.bg is much more popular for technical-oriented bookmarks but we don't aim this audience.)

edno23 is the first microblogging site in Bulgaria and this is the reason for its stats. Clix.bg is created some months after edno23.com. They are similar in functionality. edno23.com web site gives the impression that it's better supported.

Facebook is popular in social networking and I think it's more used than local alternative when it comes to what social networking really is. MySpace is seldom used.

I would add start.bg - it's directory for web sites (~dmoz) and it's well supported.

bg.wikipedia.org is very good.

There is lack of local WebTools for Work.

There are WebTools for Learning (beside Wikipedia BG) but they are paid.
Let me try to summarize the current suggestions:

Work

* Google Docs -> stays?
* Remember the Milk -> stays?
* LinkedIn -> stays? (can you think of a business networking website like LinkedIn in Bulgaria?)

+ Clipmarks Add-on

Learn

* Wikipedia -> Wikipedia (bg)
* Topix -> start.bg
* HowStuffWorks.com -> stays?

+ Answers Add-on

Play

* YouTube -> vbox7.com (see note below)
* Hype Machine -> stays?
* Miro -> stays?

+ PicLens Add-on

Connect

* Criagslist -> svejo.net
* Yelp -> edno23
* Facebook -> Facebook

+ Me.dium Add-on

What do you guys think about this list?

One thing that I noticed about vbox7.com is that it doesn't give as much control over the type of viewable content depending on the audience as YouTube does. For example, for some videos, YouTube asks to confirm your age before displaying the video. Seeing how popular vbox7.com is in Bulgaria, I'm for including it on the Getting Started page, but I just wanted to see what you think about this. Thanks!
I don't think we can make better list than the suggested from you.

vbox7 policy is to not include 18+ content and there's link for reporting inappropriate content. I think it's OK vbox7 to be promoted more visibly.
Cool, thanks.

Any thoughts on LinkedIn, HowStuffWorks and Hype Machine? Or should we go with them for now?
zip.bg is failed attempt for LinkedIn but more like "briefcase" (e.g. +uploaded files) than "visit card/CV" (LinkedIn). It was already discussed in this bug and it requires invitations (the reasoning is to better track relationships between people so that noone comes from nowhere).

There are some HowStuffWorks alternatives like znam.bg (translated "know.bg") but they are all paid, e.g. http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fznam.bg%2Fcom%2Faction%2FshowLoginInfo&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=bg&tl=en <http://znam.bg/com/action/showLoginInfo> for znam.bg (and for completeness: they claim 1/3 of content is free).

The closest to Hype Machine are some MP3 shops that include their own music news, like mp3.bg or mp3.dir.bg.

Although I really don't want to miss yet another deadline, there's one more candidate for getting started pages: programata.bg. It lists practically all events in major Bulgarian towns: http://209.85.135.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=bg&tl=en&u=http://programata.bg/%3Fp%3D2%26l%3D1%26c%3D1&usg=ALkJrhirDjh2D0bO5jXeObOBdHKpkJNxqQ <http://programata.bg/?p=2&l=1&c=1>

OK, let's go with LinkedIn then.

Let's leave HowStuffWorks for now, maybe we can find something better later.

Which one would you prefer?

I think that's a great suggestion. Maybe we can have it as a 4th link in the Connect category?

Thanks Ognyan for your suggestions and patience. Would you like to start working on the HTML for this page now? I hope we can soon mark this bug as fixed.

This zip contains proposed getting started page for Bulgarian l10n, as summarized in comment 7 but with Contacto.bg instead of LinkedIn.

Logos are not scaled down nice. Should I try to vectorize them (I have experience for this).

Hi Ognyan. Thanks for creating the html file and the logos. This looks really good! :)

Thanks for looking up contacto.bg for a linkedin replacement. It looks pretty nice. It's free to use and register, right?

I improved the quality of the Contacto.bg and Endo23.com logos, and resized the other ones to make them all 65px high. If you have a way of making the logos look better, please do so :)

We changed the add-on featured in the last category, from Me.Dium to Shareaholic (see bug 478757). Can you please translate the following description, please?

"The ultimate add-on for the link sharing junkie!"

I'll attach the files after my modifications in the next comment.

Almost there! :-) (we just need the Shareaholic description)
Attachment #368892 - Attachment is obsolete: true
Thank you for the improvements :-) For now let's leave the logos as-is.

The translation is:

"Най-добрата добавка за пристрастените към споделяне на уеб страници!"
