When a Gmail IMAP mail is copied(or moved) to [Gmail]/Spam or [Gmail]/Trash, copy of the mail in any Gmail IMAP folder is automatically deleted, so it looks to be mail loss for user

When a Gmail IMAP mail is copied(or moved) to [Gmail]/Spam or [Gmail]/Trash, copy of the mail in any Gmail IMAP folder is automatically deleted. Gmail removes all Gmail's label when COPY/MOVE to [Gmail]/Spam & [Gmail]/Trash folder of Gmail IMAP. So it's design/spec of Gmail/Gmail IMAP. However, it looks to be mail loss for user. This is one of "silent delete of mail by Gmail IMAP" cases. Tested with Tb Trunk 2008/8/09 build. [Test Procedure] (1) Copy a mail to Test/X8 and Text/X9 folder (no other mail exists). Open Test/X8 and Text/X9. (2) At Test/X9: Copy the mail to [Gmail]/Spam. (3) Via IDLE, delete/expunge is notified for Test/X9 and Test/X8. Then mail count of Text/X8 and Test/X9 is automatically changed to 0. Above is similar to following scenario with usual IMAP server. -------- -------- Client-1 Client-2 -------- -------- Copy a mail in Text/X9 to [Gmail]/Spam Delete mail in Test/X8, Test/X9 Expunge Notify of delete&expunge via IDLE for Test/X8 and Test/X9 Note: If delete model is "Move to Trash model" and target folder is [Gmail]Trash, "Undo delete" does do nothing(Gmail IMAP returns "OK" to request to flag -\Deleted). Bug 417167 is for this issue.

Note: This bug will be closed as INVALID soon, because this bug's phenomenon is due to special Gmail/Gmail IMAP design/spec(never be Tb's fault). This bug's purpose is to help analysis of funny phenomena with Gmail IMAP, and to help Bug 450227.

Note: As I wrote Bug 402793 Comment #8, move back of the mail to a Gmail IMAP folder(other than [Gmail]/Spam, [Gmail]/Trash) recovers all Gmail's labels, by recent Gmail IMAP enhancement. So lost mail in any Gmail IMAP folder can be recovered by "move back" operation from [Gmail]/Spam or [Gmail]/Trash to a Gmail IMAP folder. Sorry but I don't know Gmail's behaviour when "copy back". When "copy back" from [Gmail]/Spam or [Gmail]/Trash, mail stays in [Gmail]/Spam or [Gmail]/Trash too. I don't know what will happen in this case with Gmail/Gmail IMAP. By the way, it means loss of capability to "remove all Gmail's labels attached to mails at a glance by copy/move mails to [Gmail]/Trash folder via Gmail IMAP". It's sad for me...

It seems to me these should both be closed, because we should not attempt to override gmail behavior here. Further, I wonder if we should not allow user to chose delete model in thunderbird.
