There seem to be numerous bugs related to FireFox font settings.

 - the font size is set in unknown units. As the fonts were huge on NetBSD when my X server did not work properly and I got effectively something like 50 DPI (reported correctly by xdpyinfo) I would guess these are pixels. There is the DPI pref in Firefox which affects the font size but only when it is changed *much* (I think the default is something like 96, and the fonts would change only when it goes below 50).

 - the font size is separate for each locale. It might be useful to have a relative size adjustment here (ie 125% or +2pt) but having to set size for a dozen locales separately is insane

This bug was reported using Firefox 3.0 or older, which is no longer supported. The bug has also not been changed in over 500 days and is still in UNCO.
Reporter, please retest this bug in Firefox 3.6.10 or later using a fresh profile, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/managing+profiles. If you still see this problem, please update the bug. If you no longer see the bug, please set the resolution to RESOLVED, WORKSFORME.

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.12 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.

It still is a problem, see for example bug 467984. The "default" font size is applied only to one or two groups.
