I think that is a theme related problem not with thunderbird. Try with different color settings in kde.
I changed to a lot of other KDE Color Themes and the problem still happening. See image attached (I'm using Debian Lenny with KDE3). And... I never see this problem before (Thunberbird 3B2 don't have this problem, and Thunberbird 2.x don't have this problem).
Summary: When I click in message (too see it in message panel), all fields hidden (from, subject, date, etc) → selected row in thread pane is completely white for selected message

Want to confirm that bug. Ubuntu Hardy, KDE 3.5, Thunderbird Beta3. Same comments as Renato, I didn't have that when I tried the Beta2 (same system, same versions) and don't have that with TB 2.x. screenshot here: http://twitpic.com/ekc9w/full
So let me just confirm - this is with Thunderbird's default theme, but a different colour schema in KDE?
I use default Thunderbird Theme. No matter KDE (3.5) color schema... This problem ALWAYS happening on Tb 3b3 (and NOT on Tb 3B2 or Tb 2.x).
Confirm, it's with Thunderbird's default theme, and any combination of KDE color scheme, default or changed.
I think this is actually the same as bug 483761 (but with different system color scheme/theme or something.) FWIW, this works correctly on kde4 (whatever version Jaunty is using).
Yes, this bug happening on Tb3B3 and any combination of KDE (3.5) color theme (default or not) as you can see attached in this bug report. I am using Debian Lenny
Grr, meant to write this is actually the same as bug 503312. In particular, there the system would have the Highlight would be gray, and here it's white for some reason.
